Truly amazing pictures - but is it art ?

Thing is with this stuff, yes it shows incredible talent to make something look that realistic but it gets to the stage where its pointless, might aswell have just taken a photo. He isn't depicting anything particularly interesting either, the portraits are just standard mug shots and it just leaves me cold.

Talented yes, interesting, not so much. Give me the work of Wes Burt or Shawn Barber over this guy any day.

Of course it's art, and yes, they're easy to tell from photo's though that may be 18 years as a framer coming into play.

it is art, no question

If I do a pooh on the floor and tell you it's art, it is. As long as I (the artist) believe it to be the case. Art doesn't have to please or interest the person looking at it to qualify as art, it just has to be the intention of the person making it, to make art.

An illustrator, skilful at making some of his drawings look like photographs. I’ve had a look at the site and find nothing of great interest, it all looks fairly average to me.

I think you can find 'art' in anything, I think that those mugshot drawings display amazing technical skill, but I do not find them particularly inspiring, I'm sure however that many other people do.

Awesome talent, but does it really matter if it's 'Art'? Everyone has a different opinon of what Art is anyway.

I'd take looking at these all day than looking at a Shed made from a Canoe or some other Turner Prize 'Art'.

I can only hope to draw as well as this guy in the future, but for now practice!

(Shameless plug of my latest drawing http://mattchu-holliday.deviantart.com/art/Missy-Rayder-114808488) No where near as detailed or realistic as that guy, but it's nice to have something to aspire to.

Reminds me of this guy who used to paint photo-perfect paintings in the 70s, absolutely brilliant. His name escapes me for the moment though!

Surely that mere fact carries hugely interesting concepts. What does it mean when you cannot tell a photograph from the work of the human hand?
