I currently have a 8800gts 512 gfx card and my monitor is a 24" @1920x1200
atm i mostly just play wow so the card runs the game fine ofc,, but now that i am trying multiboxing while playing with wow i am running 5 verisons of wow at once and i feel the gfx card is the weak point as the cpu is never over 50% on a core and got 4gb mem in system as well.
What would be a good choice of an upgrade gfx wise probby would want to spend anything from £150-250 max
My current psu is a thermaltake toughpower 600w

260 or a 280, check out the MM

or the 4870 if you want to save a bit of money, its just a bit behind the 260 for performance

no its not, its generally ahead, the 4870 1 gig is actually better than the 280 in some situations too, though it is situation dependent. Its pretty much agreed that 280>4870>260

My opinion is to wait for the next generation Cards because the 4870 or GTX260 is not going to make a big difference in performance from the 8800GTS512. A good upgrade from the 8800GTS 512 is (GTX285, GTX295, 4850x2, 4870x2).

Another vote here for XFX 4870, or if you want to wait for next generation etc just turn some settings down temporarily :)

I gotta disagree there really I've just upgraded from 8800gts to GTX260 and have seen a BIG improvment.

Thanks all for the fast replies , i think i will go with the following as sugested

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-120-XF&groupid=701&catid=701&subcat=

i was pretty sure i would see a differance in performance , but was unsure how much, but to read it is 2 gens ahead of my 8800gts i think i will give it a try ,, the only negative thing for me is i prefer nvidia :D

EDIT BTW why do ocuk not list the 280 anymore they just have 285 is it discontinued ?

The GTX260 is about 40% faster than the 8800GTS 512. 40% performance increase is not considered big improvement. My opinion is when you upgrade the graphics card must have minimum 100% performance increase from the old one.

40 % improvment is a massive increase mate for instance if a game was running at say 50 fps and you then got a 40 % improvment that game would then run at 70 fps . Now that is a worthwhile improvment in my book. There is no way upgrading equipment regularly will yield a 100% improvment Just no way

Another vote for waiting. I replaced my 8800GTS(512) by a GTX260(216) last month but found it not as big an upgrade as I expected. The 260 failed and I decided to get a refund, stick with the 8800 and wait for the next refresh. Also not found a game I play at moment that actually needs an upgrade.

I to never really had a problem untill i started multiboxing in wow . so running multiple coppies of the game at once can sure test a gfx card

I upgrade from a 8800GTS 512 to GTX295 and performance incise was 100% with no AA and with AA up to 3 times faster;)

wotlk isn't actually that graphic intensive, its the cpu and internet bottlenecking usually. i double box myself and the 9800gtx+ (which is pretty much the same card as yours) and copes really well at 1920x1200.

I just bought that xfx card and it flys. Plus for that price I can always get a second one for crossfire if newer games need it. At the moment I can run Assassin's Creed at 1920x1080 with no stutter and all the visuals turned up.
