Hi what do you think of this Teg?

If you can afford the insurance, for that money i would go for a JDM spec, slightly cheaper to buy initially and you can get a better lower mileage example for that price.

I would say you are right at the bottom end of UKDM DC2's at around 3.5k. If it were me i's save up a bit more and get a lower mileage UK spec car.

The example you posted looks reasonable, however its got some pretty big miles on it, and after another 10-20k isn't going to be worth much if you ever wanted to sell.

For about £3k I would only be looking for the car to last me for 3 years and not too bothered about any sell-on value.

So the JDM is just a Japanese import? Are repairs more expensive for those also?

Thanks for replies!

JDM = Japanese Domestic Market, so yeh its just an import. IIRC they don't have abs, or airbags, and are set up a little stiffer, compared to the Uk spec car. Also slightly up on power, and havce different wheels.

Not exactly sure on running costs, but i would have thought they would be similar, probably best to try and find a dedicated ITR forum, or pop over to the honda section on pistonheads, and ask there.

If it were me and i was hoping to run it for three years, i'd defiently be looking at a jdm car, or a more expensive lower mileage uk car. Depending on your mileage a year, I would have thought starting a 3 year ownership on 140k, would mean the car will be a dog at the end of your ownership.

I can see the start of the Honda rot on the rear arch there (OP), won't be long before the arches and sills need replacing. A fresh import won't have rust at all unless it's from Hokkaido where they have severe winters, even then it's nowhere near as bad as the UK with its nasty salt.

The car in the first post looks a little tatty

Which bits look tatty? As Clarkey said it's got a little rust bubbling which needs sorting straight away, looks like he's touched it up though :/ (might even be a stone chip that started to rust)

Rocker cover is flaking a bit but this is really common, other than that and the alloys needing a refurb it's not that bad for a 11 year old car..

ABS was an option from Honda btw, plenty of 96 DC2-R's have ABS.

Arch bubbling, wheels need a refurb, bolsters on seat worn. Also pictures have a fantastic way of flattering cars so I can imagine it won't be amazing in real life.

"Good condition" :D

Given that a wheel refurb is £250 it's not exactly been loved.

It has little going for it £2500 tops, but to be honest I'd run a mile from that one - there are much better for around £4k.

Rust on the rear arches is easily treated if caught early - once it's bubbled on the outside of the arch it has rusted through and is much more of a job.

www.itr-dc2.com btw

Purely on the face of it, the seller isn't the owner. Strike 1. Theres a crease in the hood (possible frontal at some point maybe) and it's relatively high mileage. Strike 2. The wording on the ad comes across to me as lazy and conveniently vague on key points such as rear tyres, aircon assume doesn't work, and it is a tatty example overall. Strike 3.

Walk away, perhaps be patient and seek the much more promising JDM spec as advised above. Seems like a good pointer there. :)

looks kind of sporty :/ Its not all about looks.

Your looking at arguably one of the best handling front wheel drive cars available. It also has a fantastic engine which begs to be revved all the way to its 9k odd rpm redline. I'd have one in an instant given the money.

I know. I'd never get one though because they look pretty naff to me.

There really are some bargains to be had on these now. A lot of people are desperate to sell and are dropping prices like mad.

Running costs are quite low considering the type of car, Best bet is to get along to http://www.itr-dc2.com/forum/ there are some buying guides on there that will tell you the main things to look out for. Not a great deal will go wrong with them, the main things to check is the gear synchros. Make sure you get one with full service history along with regular oil chainges.

I can’t recommend one highly enough, I was absolutely gutted to sell mine. Every time I got in it even just for a drive to the shops it made me smile. Just make sure you don’t rush into buying one too quickly, get a few test drives firsthand get a feel for them.

Personally on the looks side of things, I prefer the JDM front end but I ended up going for a UKDM in black and while not the prettiest of cars it carries a certain presence about it and always turned heads.
