my wife realised that we have a crack running up the inside of our door ie either side of the yale lock mechanism. last week i was made to jump out of my chair when i heard a really loud bang, thinking wtf, i unlocked the 2 deadbolts, chain and yale lock, to find nobody there bar the opposite neighbours standing outside in their pj's asking what was going on, it was around 2330, nobody else. this was nearly a week ago now and we've just noticed the damage, so........

do i call the local police number and get a crime report number and then claim for a new door

or

take it on the chin and fork out for a new door?

there is what looks like a footprint on the door, cant believe im so blind i didnt see it til now.

also we live in a really decent part of chandlers ford near winchester. really low crime levels, do you think it was a kid with little more intention than to kick something or where we being burgled?

Don't know how house insurance works but I know you invalidate your car insurance by not properly reporting incindents nd just paying for repairs, best to report it to both the Wicked and the antichrists (read: insurance company) youll probably still need to pay for your own door as it's probably within your 'excess' or whatever they call it but they do love there paperwork and I'm sure it'll make them happier if you do it all 'Kosher' like :p

no harm in reporting it

if not only because the police didnt bother paying any interest when the old and suspecte mad woman in the next street rang them up last week about burglars

do the police still bother to show up these days ?
we had some idiot threatening us with a knife in his hand (he was still sat in his car) outside the office on a main highstreet.
called the police and told them he had a knife in his hand...they didnt even turn up.

this was last tuesday

Gotta say for all I put down the wicked when I needed them they where there within 10, good job too if it hadn't been a 1/2 bat who had opened the door to my hiding place they'd likely be in serious ****

im wondering if anyone else can understand wtf alphane is trying to convey? sounds he he needs to put the crackpipe down to me

ok back to the point, so call the police community number not 999) and then tell my insurance. hmm, will it put my premium up, if its an unprovoked attck on my property and i claim? or even if i tell them and not claim.

How bad is the crack? Sounds as though it was jut vandalism.

Depending on how bad it is, I'd either phone the police (you will need a crime number) if it's bad, or just not bother and leave it until it's really needed :)

Is it an old door? Could be the wood expending and crack, the snap causing the loud bang noise.
