This model tend to put out about 160bhp on average when people have had them dyno'd, however there are good ones and bad ones :)

There's an interesting new inlet design coming out soon developed by a guy who builds super 2000 regulation engines for BTCC, WTCC and WRC etc. Estimates are 195bhp on a standard engine, cost about £1200.

Standard exhaust design is crap as the backbox is too weighty and they break, and the mount is naff. Custom made retaining the originals hidden tip is the best way to go imho, or buy an off the shelf stealth from somewhere like KTEC but no idea what their fit and finish is like.

Worth signing up over on Cliosport just for some of the info there

bargain. :p or you could get the RS Stamped ones that bring it closer to standard or the Angel Works ones which are even better.

The Magnex is cat back, could I get a smaller hidden backbox perhaps

How much would I be looking at (not a neccesity anytime soon as the backbox is barely a year old and looks in great nick underneath)

I drove one of those shape Clios a while back for a month, it was an Extreme Edition model but it was as you say, like a go cart for handling.

Only issues I found were cheapness of inside, how light the steering was (you could probably almost spin it like a wheel of fortune!) and the back seats being a bit poop! has any of that changed in the 172?

The stereo was half decent though ¬_¬

The steering definetely isn't overly light as you say it seems to have plenty of feel to me. Handling really is sublime and incredibly fun and responsive the BMW hasn't come close to it but then that isn't a sports car or a hot hatch so I wouldn't have expected it to. It certainly dominates it's own place.

Extreme edition? which one is that?

This is the Sport 172 so has different suspension setup, different seats and well yea different everything.

I'm 6ft 3" so I originally thought it would be a problem with the car being small but having the seat all the way back sorts this out for me. Might be a problem when the car is fully loaded though :(

Will have to get some mats tommorow, someone as obsessive as me with car cleanliness can't be having dirty passengers ruining my carpets heh :p

The Extreme was a model variant - no idea on spec, look up DF04 XEL (Yes I can recall number plates of almost every car that has passed my family for any amount of time :p).

The only info my seraches bring are:
Model
CLIO EXTREME 3 16V

Your 320i was an SE though, you'd probably have had a different viewpoint if you had lower, wider tyres with M-tech suspension as on the sports :D

Nice car, I thoroughly approve, always though the 320i was an odd choice.

Oh, and isn't the extreme a 1.2, and has nothing extreme about it whatsoever?

Like I said, I have no idea what the Exstreme was other than being fun to chuck around and handling like a kart...hence why I gave the plate incase anyone has a site that gives more detailed info instead of the basic RAC one.

I drove a Sport 330i aswell before I bought the 320i when hunting for E46. It didn't set my world alight but very very nice cars and I can still of course see the appeal (I do want an M sport one day). The Clio is raw and loud it rattles and creaks but flings me into my seat and grabs you by the balls and asks you how much of a man you really are when you fling it round a corner :p

We have differing tastes which is fine of course :p

Rob, I'm a bit of both, I'm partial to a bit of BMW smoothery and always will be but now I've driven a proper hot hatch for a longer period of time than 10 minutes I can also appreciate this side of motoring. Today I had the most fun I've had in any car...ever, but then the BMW also put as much of a smile on my face when ripping up country roads in a different way ;

Yup that I can understand which is why the next car is at least an E92 325i sport for the best of both worlds! right now I've got the smoothness and comfort but not the shove and grunt like your 172 has :-O

Part of what makes up the fun is also the size and loudness of the thing that you don't get unless you get a Z4 M with zero sound proofing or a soft top :p

See that's the beauty of a solid roof and windows, want noise? open the windows :D Never been a fan of convertibles myself, only autofolding hardtops but those are a rarity.
