**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

I've had 2 CTDs already and I've only been playing for a few hours :( One during CPU moves on campaign map; the other was during end of turn where I was attacked on land and I won, and then a navy attack and it CTDs in the middle of battle :(

Would i like this as the campaign sounds interesting to play but not bothered about 3d battles stuff. Mainly want conquer the world with England lol.

Did have Rome tw but never really got into the campaign but since empires is more modern i feel i might be able to stomach the management more.

bah, just got the mega pack off steam as Ive lost all the disks from pretty much every total war game (the reason I only use steam these days), only to see too late that I dont get the extra units. Are they any good, basically am I missing out on much?

I wouldnt worry too much about the special units, modders will add those (and more) into the game anyway

I carn't play any sea battles in the game as every time I click attack the game crashes to desktop. The Demo worked perfectly.

Also why is it so hard to get units across a bridge.

They'll walk off and find a crossing rather than take the bridge.

I can get them across by ungrouping them and taking them across one by one but in a battle it takes too long and even then they prefer to just stand there or walk off half the time.

Just played the demo, ran like crap on my system, but I can't complain....

X2 3800
2gb ddr ram
1950pro 512mb

:p

I just wish Medieval would work on my system, it just decides to crash all the time when I enter battles :(

sry if this is already posted, im sure i read something like it but I cant seem to find it. Im trying to install this off steam and it says its updating and is downloading v slow. Anyway, thats fine, but every time I lose connection from the down load, restart steam, anything that stops the continuous download I go back to 1 %, at this rate i will never get the game as Ive downloaded the first 7% 6 times. Anyone no what my problem is (apart from steam its self :P).

Sadly this games way too unstable to play at the moment. Ive had 5 c2ds this evening and you can only keep replaying the same things over so many times. Its now bottom of the pile til they release some decent patches.

Its the first game ive bought on release for a long while and it reminded me why I normally wait!

The game does appear to require some patching, though it seems to be wildly different from person to person. For instance, I havent had a crash yet at any time in the game. I see quite a few people mentioning crashes during unit merges and naval movements, yet I've done hundreds of those and not crashed once. About the only thing thats wrong with mine is that I cannot get the Free Roaming Camera to stay turned off as I dont like being able to move the camera wherever I like.

never had a crash or any prob just the troops take a while to do what i want them to :/ then most of the time its wrong.

Gosh damn, I hate this game. But only because I literally can't stop playing unless I HAVE to stop playing :D Even after the CTDs, I just loaded the game back up.

I do miss the ole chivalric combat of past TWs, however there's something that's still very satisfying about seeing lines of riflemen shooting in sync  I wonder if its a technical limitation that they couldn't actually create a proper volley simulation though? (ie. first line shoots, then kneels down so next line can shoot).

I read that there's an upgrade for this tactic in the tech tree? Either way someone already modded the demo to do this, so expect it soon in either form. :D

Yeah the new tech trees are a great addition to the TW series I think.

Line Firing does indeed need to be researched, as does fire and advance, and platoon firing.

At the start of the game you need to be very selective as to what you research.

As the British I concentrated on naval techs, as Sweden army techs for example.

Once you get several schools/colleges/unis you can start researching multiple things at the same time.

A little tip for those starting, considering destroying some other building types in your territory as you start the game to build additional schools.

As Britain I destroyed the church in Oxford to make way for another school, just nb the negative effect on public order!

Thats good news that there is actual line firing. I thought that was a big mistake when it wasnt in the demo but glad its made it into the game.

Now I am just waiting for a decent reduction in price before I buy. Its still £35 in most places and personally for the amount of complaints that is a little high. Come on Steam weekend offer!!!!
