Looking to drop some cash on an i7 build in the next week and was wondering if anyone had any views on the -

EVGA Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

I am looking to go for my first OC experience but want something rock steady so will probably be a mild OC on air.

Any other current mobo's that are better for OCing especially for a novice?

Proposed Spec -
EVGA Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
Asus Triton 88 Quiet CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775/LGA1366)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (102-B50902-00-AT)
Kingston 'HyperX' 6GB (3 X 2GB) 'Intel® XMP' DDR3 2000MHz CL8 Triple Channel Kit (KHX16000D3ULT1K3/6GX)
Corsair HX 1000W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply

I have heard the Biostar performs very well for such a well priced board and is relatively easy to use. OC were doing a bundle using a Biostar sending it out at 3.6 which is a nice upgrade from stock.

Double post ***! Just read your spec again - if you are doing only a mild overclock on air your RAM is overkill. Get some nice 1600 stuff and save a few hundred quid. The dominator would fit your requirements well. Unless of course you are going water cooling in the future and looking at 4Ghz plus.

Edit - They obscured my for the win - strange!

I may well take it further if the results are good and I don't have too many problems so I think I'll stick with the hi spec RAM.

Anyone else got any suggestions on mobo's?

I'm also thinking about SSD's in raid some time down the line.

I recently got the ASUS P6T (not deluxe). It has almost all the overclocking capability of its big brother (the Deluxe) and a better PCIe layout. Its decently priced and with the 920 you won't have any trouble overclocking.

The best x58 motherboard for overclocking has to be the Gigabyte EX58 Extreme Intel, you'll easily get 4GHZ on air with that mobo.
Also i'd change the CPU cooler to a Noctua or V8, more cooler/quieter.

hi there

the easiest overclocker is the rampage2

the easiest realistic clocker is the the vanilla p6t

it doesnt have all the extra gubbins of the deluxe

but it has a well laid out bios that is very easy to use and understand

i have used nearly every brand of x58 at work now [apart from evga and msi] and can confirm this

I would love your opinion on the EVGA when you get to use one in a build as from the specs I like the look of this board.
