Windows 7 beta - 9th January

Anyone else have issues with opening the "Games" folder in the start menu? Whenever I do, it hangs for 30 seconds whilst the icons load, very annoying!

You may have downloading of art enabled when you open it.

I just installed Win7, opened up the games folder and it gave me the option to enable/disable it.

Have a look in options when you open you're games folder and you will get this:

One thing with the Windows 7 taskbar that is beginning to annoy me is how it pops up the preview for all of the IE8 tabs even when they are all in the same window, clicking the button in the taskbar does nothing but bring up the preview, this forces you to make 2 clicks to get to the app.

apart from you don't need to click to get the preview, so only one click is needed and it'l take you straight to the window/tab that you want. i like it a lot personally!

anyone know when this beta release expires and if there'll be another release after this? whenever I load my computer into vista I want to be straight back on 7, so going back to vista for 10 months untill windows 7 is actually released doesn't seem like a good plan!

I know but I am sat waiting for about a second for it to popup which is a bad design, having a click on the icon bring up IE in the state you left it in and also popping up the preview would be the best solution.

perhaps you have a point, and if you move the mouse onto the window the preview will dissapear.

Finally got round to installing yesterday, and so far so good. Certainly seems to be running much more smoothly than vista, and as yet I haven't come across any software that doesn't work as it should. I was actually shocked to find that creative have already release beta X-Fi drivers that work pretty well, pity they couldn't have been so quick when vista was in the works.

Not really tried any games yet, installed Fallout 3 and had a quick test play and all seems to work. Well apart from the shortcut not being placed in the game browser during install, which I'm a bit confused about given that it does in vista.

how the holy hell do you disable that stupid option that maximises everything when you shake your mouse? every window i move around gets maximised ffs!

cant find it in google

another thought:

give me back the option to 'invert selection' in the edit menu, as well as seeing the full names of my files and folders if i want.

e.g the ISO for win7:

i see it as:

7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CU
but it's actually called
7000.0.081212-1400_client_en-us_Ultimate-GB1CULFRE_EN_DVD - 32-bit.iso

why is everything cut off like this? seriously - that is just retarted

Just installed 7048. Quite easy actually, just extract the ISO to a folder, click on Setup.exe and upgrade. Kept all my files, settings etc and worked perfectly afterwards :)

Beta1 keys work fine too.

No, it 2 clicks to get to the required tab.

In Vista, click IE in taskbar, click required tab.

In 7, hover over IE in taskbar, click required tab.

Having a mare with permissions at the moment.

Last week I couldn't download anything using Firefox because my download folder was locked.

Yesterday the Firefox update couldn't install itself because Firefox.exe was locked and I couldn't delete it because I didn't have permission. The installer had removed most of the previous version so I ended up having to install it to a different folder.

This morning Windows decided to lock my Vista partition which meant I couldn't boot in to Vista. Had to do a start-up repair with the Vista disc to allow me to use it again.

Seem to be getting more and more file and folder locks and it's just become annoying to use.

Going to format and just install Vista and wait until Windows 7 is released before installing it again.

Yer I keep getting random permission problems. Like trying to save a jpeg or notepad file. If I just rename it it saves fine
