NWN2 terrible performance

NWN2 was a terrible piece of code, even though I had no major issues running it on both a 8800gtx and recently a gtx260. Even a couple of devs have admitted what a nightmare it was. Tons of legacy stuff from the old NWN engine etc and they tried to make it current gen.

A shame as MotB and the last 2 chapters in the NWN2 OC were pretty decent. SoZ did indeed break some things again (bad installer amongst other things) and Atari's penchant for nasty DRM has delayed Mysteries of Westgate adventure add on by 18 months. A real mess, which could have been avoided really....

Does this mean that if I install the original game and the MoTB expansion, both games will run better, or that MoTB runs much better and looks better?

To follow an extension of this, does this mean if I have MoTB installed, but run the autoupdater, or run the autoupdater on a fresh installation of MoTB, the performance will drop again? :(

No, I meant MotB and and the last half or so of the OC is better gameplay-wise, imo. I thought ch 1 was rather mediocre. Latest patch is 1.22 and I believe the SoZ problem is fixed now...but was only an issue if you had SoZ. So just patch your MotB version to the latest.

Performance is better than its ever been, but that ain't saying much though :p

I reinstalled it along with Mask of the Betrayer and turned down the shadows in the advanced options to medium - actually does not make that much of a visual difference. The game is running fine now with max AF and x4 AA - still a hog of an engine. It is sad to think that this is the latest in depth RPG out there, 7 years ago there would have been a few more - that's progress for you.

Had a look at Drakensang? I haven't played it myself, but it looks like they're trying to capture the complex, party based mechanic of the old D&D games.

Edit - I see you have :)

In answer to the first question, both games will run better because they are updating the engine :)

In other news I arrived in Neverwinter for the first time last night :)

With regards to the party members you collect along the way, when the meet the requirments can you choose a prestige class for them? My character is a wizard and I'm not bothering speccing him to a prestige class.

Well the rpg bug has well & truely bitten and I've just bought the Baldurs Gate Compilation set for just under a tenner.

So I've got NWN2 and MotB to play then BG 1, BG 2 & expansions to play, and I also re-installed Planescape Torment yesterday, so that my years gaming time pretty much sown up :)

If anyones got any good mods to suggest to help the games run on XP and at 1920x1200 I'd be grateful for them :)

All fantastic games :D You've never played the BG series before?

If you want to change the resolution on BG1+2 and Planescape use the mod that CrowK posted (http://www.gibberlings3.net/widescreen/index.php)

Also, be sure to get the Planescape Trilogy modules for NWN2 when they are released, developed by Rogue Dao studios, they are stories of their own creation set in the Planescape universe, the first part is released on friday - http://www.roguedao.com/purgatorio/.

Oh wow! I stopped being able to get to their site a while ago and thought they'd gone under. That's my weekend planned now :D.

Well I acutally got BG II when it came out but wasn't that bothered, but I think I'll enjoy it this time.;)

As luck would have it I've found a copy of Icewind Dale in my spare bedroom in a pile of old games aswell;)

I Remember I got quite far in PST, got stuck trying to fight a boss who summoned something like a massive cannon type thing that could one shot my character:mad:

PST was by far one of the darkest RPG's i've ever played. It was eerie but immense!

Definately looking to play it again with new resolutions!

Well BG is patched up, got tutu and the widescreen mod installed and loving it so far. Bit of head scratching when it came to installing the widescreen mod, but I eneded up patching TotSC and installing the widescreen mod into the TUTU folder.

Has anyone downloaded the PST mods for NWN2 yet, if so what are they like?
