FIFA 09 - Game Discussion Thread

i've just played my last game of this tripe. too many bugs and the sheer rubbish coding of this game make my blood boil. 5 of the things that have annoyed me to untold levels during this game;

1- tackles are useless. you just hold down x and watch them clash into each other. these players spend more time on thier backsides than hookers in amsterdam.

2- advantage rule isn't actually advantage. it's if the computer decides. i've had about 10 legit goals striked off to be given a 40 yard free kick.

3 - the $6 million linesman. can spot offsides to within mm's of being on or off, yet takes an age while he pigeon carriers his decision to the referee.

4 - the magic player magnet. This is one of the most annoying things i've seen in a game. half the time the player looks at the ball as if it's some new object beamed in from mars. do i kick it? or do i look at it while drool runs down my chin. it's either that or when you make a long pass, some dimwit in the middle takes a touch. even though you hold the button to make him skip over it, he still takes a touch and ruins the play.

5 - the power meter is absolutley useless. it's the same on manual and semi. you can hold down a full power pass and it'll travel 10 yards. you can hold down X to clear the ball and itll go about 5 yards outside the box. it is absolutley useless.

then you get on to the prescripted online game crap and you question why you ever bought this football "simulator" ever. the AI is exactley the same from fifa 2000, the game play is the same except you can try and do tricks. which are IMPOSSIBLE because of the above, unless you play against a noobie or idiot level offline.

also chuck in the fact that anyone can quit at anytime, but you can't even see that they are a quitter because it doesn't show you. even fifa 08 on the wii had the bloody stats up at the team selection page.

utter crap.

my only gripe with the game is the quiters and that u cant avoid them at all like you could in 08.

i used to get annoyed at everyone falling over a lot but in real football when people are sprinting the slightest nock can send you over very easily.

the linesman problem can be annoying but i think they should have gone one step further and put linesman mistakes in to make it more realistic because they do happen.

Totally agree. It drives me barmy when players just stand and wait for the ball to slowly roll to them when they could easily move to it.

I noticed a new bug the other day whilst at a mates, we was playing on live and i got through 1 on 1 with the goalie who was now out of his area. Easy goal i thought, just hit it around him......but no the goalie dived and saved it with his hand..OUTSIDE the area! I was like OMGWTFBQ!!!!:p There are a lot of bugs but for me it is still very enjoyable(most of the time) and there is no better football game out.

and there is no better football game out.

This is the main point, said exactly the same thing to ps3ud0 during a couple of online games last night, despite all the bugs, there is no better option. Because I love playing football games and for this reason I will almost certainly buy FIFA 10 when it is out, even though I know that will have just as many bugs as this

Well annoyed with EA. Why can't the produce a working, stable game?

Was going for the 50 transfer achievement and am currently in my 3 season with an absolutley amazing team.

Game decides to crash at 10% simulating. This was when I was trying to sim the next match. So I played the game instead after 2 or 3 crashes and after the game it has to sim the other matches, again the game crashes at 10% simulating.

So that's my Manager mode ruined and have to start again. I feel like selling the thing at the moment.

Have read this also happens on the PC and PS3 version.

i downloaded the alternative english commentary pack, i think its better than the the origonal commentary. mainly because its just nice to hear some new phrases :)

Agree with all of these. Further to your gripes:

- Playing advantage: Ok so I'm given advantage, and push forwards as that is the point. I'm still on the ball, and then the referee whistles and gives me the original free kick anyway, which is now 20 yards behind where I've pushed up to? What, he changed his mind? Or didn't agree that I was indeed playing the advantage? Ok...

- Player AI/organisation: this is horrible. Firstly, when I am playing on World Class or Legendary difficulty (even Professional), I do not expect my own players to intercept or get in the way of passes that were not intended for them. This happens far too much. Say I'm switching the ball from right back to left back using a full power X button pass, the centre half will just stand or run into the way like a plank, messing up the pass and turning over the ball. How often does this happen in professional football?

Speaking of losing the ball, if this happens in the middle of the pitch, more often than not, calamity will ensue, with the ball ping ponging about 10 times off a complete mess of players, both opposition and mine, none of which seem to be able to have any idea of ball control. Amateur football is more intelligent than this.

And speaking of computer intelligence, at Professional level and above, why the hell are my forwards still making such blind and stupid runs that are blatantly offside? The computer seems awful at timing runs.

Random end note: Anelka is immense in this game (I have updated the squads/stats), as is Evra.

don't even get me started on the goalies in this game, they are immune from fouls, injuries and red cards. 9 times out of 10, one on ones are useless. You can only ever score if you chip the keeper, walk into the 6 yard box and hammer it or cut the ball back.

If the other player pulls the keeper than you're limited to chipping only. no matter what angle, what distance, what shot. the keeper will save, unless its a chip. even if you don't shoot you still have the monumental challenge of getting the ball past him. it doesnt matter anyway because your player will get nailed outside the box and jack will happen.

I find hitting the finesse button works ok in one on ones? Usually curls the ball around the oncoming goalie, but that's if you make sure to deviate slightly at an angle from the keeper before shooting
