The new ride ...

Yeah but you'd be pretty insane to spend even £10k on a new car unless you were earning £30k/year. It's simple economics and common sense.

I think you'll find the average brand new Fiesta/Punto/Corsa driver earns nothing near £30k.

What you've said is neither 'simple economics' nor 'common sense', either.

As for space, TBH its not bad, the wife can sit behind the drivers seat with me in it (and I am 6'3")

i am well impressed. i am 5'9 and my wife cannot sit behind me in our focus and finds leg room very lacking in the 3 series.

just how big is the cabin of the punto (which is smaller than both in terms of size)?

Nice car, i think the new Fiats are quite smart compact cars. Hope you are happy with it. :)

Some people seem to be very cutting with their views...

But people DO. There's a hell of a lot of cars out there on finance. Autotrader and the like are littered with cars that are being sold because people can't keep up on the repayments.

why? £10k on finance is not that much. you don't need to be earning anywhere near £30k a year to afford a £10k car!

That's because they can't manage their finances.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

That he knows literally nothing about, well, anything.

OP - Not what I would have bought for £10k, but then we all have different opinions on cars. Still, nice enough car and so long as you are happy with the purchase, all is good. :)

Dont be silly, its all my fault as per usual apparently.

Indeed it is, regardless of the fact others posted comments, that could be deemed as worse than your own, before you did.

taking one for the team again Fox :]

I didn't say this, my argument had a bit of backbone rather than some muppet who can just reply to my comment with "Fail" and doesn't even bother to make a decent counter arguement.

My point had already been made earlier in this thread. According to people like you, you should never choose one new car over another because it is more economical. This 'middle ground' in buying a new reliable car and saving yourself money is apparently not a good idea to you. Taking that to the extreme, people should ride a one gear push bike as it is a very reliable and economical form of transport, or drive the most expensive car around because the middle ground makes no sense.

Has it not occurred to you that what went through his head was "I want a new car, something which is not going to cost much to run" instead of "I need a different car but I want to spend the lowest a mount of money I could possibly spend", because an economical car does not mean the second.

For future reference: Posting about new cars on OcUK Motors = Bad idea

*I realise it's not always a bad idea, but 90% of the time it ends up with.. ( see above replies )

Im learning to drive in one of these, and i agree it is rather spacious. My friend was bought one new for his first car, parents decided to get it for him as they are loaded. Now that, is a much more silly idea than yours. 17yr old + new car = Disaster waiting.

Fox if you earned say £45,000 a year would you still buy 2nd hand. I'm willing to bet you would go for an old shape M3. Where as a lot of people wanting a BMW would probably go for a brand new 330i or something like that. I'd do the latter personally because if you're spending that much money you might as well have something that's truly yours.

For the record I'm not the one trolling and starting arguments. You lot are the ones slaughtering people who buy new cars. Fair enough if you disagree but you could play nice instead of being so abusive and rude.
