well i turned 30 this year and trying to do a few things i have often wanted to, I'm thinking of buying a road legal quad for the summer, and wondered if anyone had any info or advice on these, and what sort of make/cash/age would be a sound be bet?

Have you thought about a motorcycle instead?

A quad would appear to have all the disadvantages of a bike (Impractical, need to dress like a power ranger, will almost certainly die in a horrible way if you have a crash) but none of the advantages such as great performance, great thrills etc.

It rather perplexes me why there are so many road legal Quads.

i have had motorbikes in the past and feel a quad is something i would like for buzzing around in the summer, just looking around at the mo

This is untrue, all the people I see riding road legal quads are fat guys in T-shirts and shorts! :o

Yes, but you get cocks on bikes dressing like that as well. Fox's point was that you are so vulnerable that you would need to wear this stuff to stand a remote chance of surviving an accident.

yeah i agree, i would not be looking to use this a great deal, just for sunny southampton in the summer time :) - also had a look at buggys on ebay - that could be an option!

I thought about this last year but never got round to it - I have to wear a suit for work so when I bike to work on a Sunday I leave shirts and trousers there to change. I could do the same with a quad.

Another reason for the quad is that I also have to take my daughter to school which is on the way so its easier for me if carrying her on the back.

Its less than 2 miles to work but all downhill (murder on a pushbike at 5pm in the rain :( ) The risk of an accident is there but very low and its all small town centre roads.

how far did you get into looking into them, i'm not really sure where to start!

Yes, I understood Fox's point.

I was making the point that although they should be dressed like Power Rangers to give them more protection, they often aren't - presumably because they look 'cooler' in T-shirts.

well each to there own it's there live i guess, i do cringe when i see it but they will be the ones that suffer, and yes i know the tax payer gets the bill... but in the grand scheme of things i don't think it makes much diffirence

You'd look like a complete choad.

Imagine the looks on peoples faces if they saw a 30 year old bombing it up and down the Avenue. Eurgh.

Quads are not great for on-road use. Stay off-road where they are great fun.

And not having to wear your arse on your hands/legs if you do :p.

I see a lot of these in plymouth, none where i come from, which is strange beacause i actually live on a farm, in the countryside.

Maybe this is something townsfolk do to try and be different or something, because i can't see any benefit ovcer a bike either. unless you have a crap sense of balance or something.

well come on guys each to there own, i have a car and a vintage moped, so quite fancy a quad, will do a bit of off road and weekend use on the roads if need be.

Quads are rubbish. You literally have to trick them into going round corners, they tip over, you can't filter, they're ugly, you look like a tool on one, the list goes on.

Get a proper bike!

we had a quad years ago, i did once or twice get round to using it on tarmac. it was awful because it had no diff so changed direction unpredictably
