Do you and your girlfriend/wife/other have a joint account?

If not, why not?

I find it quite surprising that some married couples still maintain separate accounts.

I don't live with my girlfriend, and don't have a shared account with her! But I'm sure that when that time comes we will open a joint account to pay the bills, but still keep our left over money as our own...

She buys a fair bit of cr*p :)

Not married but been together nearly 5 years and have a mortgage together. We still have seperate accounts, never felt the need to get a joint one.

I find that strange - who pays the bills? You share a home, bills, etc etc, why not share an account?

I've been with my fiancee for 6 years, we've had a joint account for 3 (getting married in ~2 weeks), and I just can't imagine not sharing an account. It works very well - we're both sensible with money however, maybe if one or both was less sensible a single account each would be better....

Because what I earn is none of anyone elses business and that even if I did agree to have a joint account I wouldn't have all my wages go into it.

We have 3 accounts.

Joint Account where all the wages and child benefit etc. goes. Also all bills and mortgage is paid out of this account. As is any household stuff like food, toiletries, furniture etc. etc. all comes out of this money.

From the joint account we pay ourselves a monthly 'allowance'.

That way Mrs has her money, I have my money and if we want to blow it on shoes, pc gear, whatever it doesn't effect the joint account, or the other person as that money is already catered for.

Our 'allowance' also covers anything personal we may need, like bus tickets, food while at work, clothing, whatever.

Seems to work out pretty well, we never ague about money, nor what the other person has bought, and we know if we want to blow some cash on random stuff that the bills etc. are already covered.

Joint account for last 18yrs, don't see the need for any other accounts or having seperate unless you hiding something or planning to leave your partner, lol

I earn more so I pay all of the household bills and she does all the housework. The only bill I insist she pays is her share of the mortgage (the full amount is taken from my account and she regularly pays half into my account)

We have joint savings accounts and separate bank accounts, never had a reason to make a joint one out of these. Bills are shared, bank statements have always been open to each other, no need to change.

We have a joint account for bills and personal accounts for everything else. His wages and my student loan go into our own accounts, and we only put as much as is needed in the joint account, the rest is ours to spend as we like.

When we finally buy our own house, we'll probably open a joint savings account to cover holidays or emergencies, but that's as far as it will go.

Im engaged to and live with my partner but we don't have a joint account, never felt the need to. She pays the mortgage, it's a 1 bedroom flat so not a massive mortgage. I pay for everything else all the bills, food for the month, pet insurance etc etc. I actually end up paying more than the mortgage mainly due to food bills.

We both spend our money on each other, I'll buy her things she needs if she doesn't have the money. It's not like were both trying to keep our money to ourselves or anything.

Same, the joint account is for bills and stuff which we both pay in to and what's in our own accounts is ours to do with as we wish:)

Same here, works a treat. Having bills coming out of personal accounts would be confusing as we'd have to balance the amounts we pay out to make it fair, far too much hassle!
