Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

I have been using Zangief recently, he is an absolute machine.

Bearing in mind I don't actually own the game therefore can't practice it, is it possible to hit someone with an EX punch and link it into a super / hyper combo with Zangief?

Secondly, the only person to beat me is Blanka for obvious reasons. Other than an EX 'green punch thing', any other tactics to get past the electricity?

I've come to the conclusion that Abel sucks. I must have lost 20+ fights last night against fireball/dragon punch spammers before having to resort to their tactics and going Ken. Now there's wins alenty, but no satisfaction :/

Really - every other charatcers moves has priority! Bah!

//edit - I feel the Akuma pain btw EVH. Jumping high fireball and constant running away. I love SF4, but it's a far cheaper game than SF2.

Then you sir, are wrong :p. Recently Abel won a high profile japanese tournament, this fact kept me trying at what i thought was a lost cause of a character. Now I can give some of the best in the PS3 side of the game a run for their money despite being crap at beat em ups.

Abel is awesome, but he does rely on punishing people for mistakes, he's not an overly offensive character. You have to learn when to act with him, the fact that he owns the second most powerful command throw (behind zangief) but is also one of the fastest characters (unlike zangief) in the game gives him incredible potential. Instead of trying to overcome high priority attacks like dragon punches, learn to bait them, block them, then punish them with a nice turnaround combo/tornado throw.

Examples would be the akuma air fireball spammers, Marseilles roll through his fireballs then command throw him as he lands. He will learn quickly that air fireballs are not something you should try against abel.

A few huge tips i can give:

As i mentioned, the Marseilles roll goes THROUGH fireballs, you can roll through them then punish them for it.

His super combo has different traits depending on what type of punch you use, iirc light punch will go through super moves, medium punch will go through normal moves and heavy will go through fireballs. Note this is very significant against Ryu players, if you have a super charged and they use their ultra/super close to you, perform yours during the pause, you'll pass right through and give them a good kicking for their troubles.

His ultra goes through fireballs, including ryus ultra. Stupidly effective against Ryu players.

His ultra will contact enemies if you use it right after you launch them using a crouched fierce punch. This is one of the easiest 'free' ultra setups in the game.

Are you playing on PS3 or 360? I'm on PS3 and would love to match up against an Abel player, it's the best way to learn.

Right..

I am so ******* ****ed!!!

I have lost my 35 hours game save with everyone unlocked and about 3500 Battlepoints.

I had this save game corrupted error which some people have got.

All i didnt was load the game up and it said that error.

Cant be bothered at all to do anything at the moment with this game...

Is this on 360 or PS3? I can probably email you my PS3 savegame that has all characters but seth unlocked. Ok you still won't have your battle points but if you had 3.5k you will progress back up to the top damn fast.

Now that you have practised for 35 hours against unbeknowing noobs, now you can put your money where your mouth is and have a go at us ;)

Do the sticks actually make people better fighters??

I tried to imagine my self using the stick and hitting the buttons but i'm right handed so i'm not sure how well i'd do and i couldn't really see my self being able to move the stick faster than my thumb rolls down the dpad. :S

It's like comparing a mouse+keyboard and a regular controller for an FPS game. You just have so much more control with a stick because you use you whole hand to control your movement, and at least 3 of your fingers for the buttons instead of simply your thumbs. Of course it takes some getting used to if you haven't used one before.

Hehe - very much doubt youll get back to 3500 quickly, especially since the skill level should have increased where noobs with no patience would have given up with rank :(...

ps3ud0

Yeah, PS3. I'm H_Buz, legendary loser :) I'm up for Abel vs Abel.

My problem is always having to second guess and react - you can't seem to dictate the match as Abel. At least I can't. You have to work so hard to take down a Ryu/Ken while they're easy moding it up with fireballs and dragon punches. Akuma is the worst - I played a guy who was contantly fireballing, teleporting, and spin kicking through the air. It takes quite a lot of skill and timing just to get close to someone doing this while what he's doing takes next to none.

I usually do roll through fireballs, but end up with people dashing in and dragon punching/throwing me. The light roll seems safe, but doesn't close the distance down. Probably just my timing being off (blames PS3 joypad!). I'm actually finding his EX wheel kick to be the most use as it goes through fireballs.

That's just not true, and it's a pet peeve of mine when people complain about being beaten by worse players because of spamming, and I don't even play the shoto characters!

Some tips then please.

He was keeping me in the middle of the screen by either teleporting everywhere or jumping backwards and chucking fireballs - which I rolled through - and jumping over me and spin kicking. It took pretty much constant rolling and dashing just to get close which is pretty hard to do without giving him the opportunity for a free hit once and a while. Once close he would run away and the process starts again. I tried turtling a little, but ended up getting slowly chipped down by fireballs.

I got killed off by the fireball and shoryuken ryu tactic as zangief.

Is there any way to get past such an onslaught of fireballs. I can't really think of anything without jumping straight into a dragon punch. All help much appreciated.

Just keep pressuring them, the only reason they spam fireballs is because they have distance from you and they can do it easy. pressure pressure pressure!
