Gamers die younger

They do make a good point - how many gamers get any exercise?

I work with people who drive to work, sit at their desk for their lunch hour and then drive home, sitting on their console every evening and weekend. Not healthy.

"... could bring an early death from heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, or cancer".

Erm what? Is there any medical evidence to support that playing video games gives you cancer?

I game a fair bit, and I exercise obsessively.

You get fat if you're lazy. It's nothing to do with playing computer games.

That advert is somewhat alarmist. I'm surprised that they can get away with it, as it's saying "playing video games = death" whereas, in reality, it's telling us what we've all known for years; a good diet and regular exercise are needed for a long healthy life. There's no need to bring video games into it, they would be better off putting a kid watching TV, sitting in school, or doing homework on there.

I think the Reg are making a bit too much of that tbh. The advert needed to depict a sedentary activity - I guess they just chose gaming as it's easy to show what he's up to, just by putting a gaming controller in his hand. They could have picked TV but it would be more difficult to show that; it would just look like a child sitting down. I don't think they set out to demonise games in particular.

I think it is very appropriate.

They aren't saying games kill, or gamers die young, but a lot of people do nothing but game, so it might make them a bit more aware, which is no bad thing.

I get about 7 hours of light exercise a week. That's basically walking to and from work, and 10 mile hikes on saturdays.

It's not really enough because I eat too much and I'm still getting fat. Curse you, vending machine! Always sitting there tempting me to buy snacks. :(

Hmmm.... I know of at least one teenager that does nothing but play computer games, drinks lots of fizzy drinks and eats nothing but foods that a are fried or have nothing of nutrional value at all....

15 years old and already 16st + in weight, it knackers him to cycle anywhere, and its not healthy....

He's not my kid but the mum seems to do nothing to try and promote a healthy way of living, quite frankly in the last few months I've seen so much lazy and just eat what you want attitudes, its really scared me.....

What’s that saying, junk in junk out.!! Sitting playing video games is fine, but some sunshine etc doesn't go a miss either.. Its just a balance in life...

Just doing some housework, like making the bed and cleaning can get you exercise, or a bike ride, a walk anything, any movement other then with your thumbs on a joypad is good, its not really all that hard, but of cause, video games are more fun so how can healthy living compete with this?

To those who have the mindset to play video games and live a fairly healthy life as well, kudos... the ones that sit around playing games all day, and eat badly to top it off, then no wonder they look so unfit and fat..!!

WHo doesn't know that already though? i know that there are some ignorant people in this country, but that is just basic.

and if it wasnt games it would be the TV killing them.

any excuse to demonise games as always, if they arent turning people into killers and making them immune to violence they are directly killing you

its lazyness thats killing people not games

I do however think the comment about the Nintendo Wii might be worth noting.... I've played the boxing on Wii, and after 30 mins if you really get into it, it can certainly make you sweat a little....

And the Wii Fit is actually something my gf has just got to help her loose weight - although she doesn't think it'll do much good, and is still swimming three times a week, and having a min of 30 minutes walk a day..!!

As I said, its all about balance, no harm in playing games, provided you don't just sit around all day doing nothing other then playing games were you just sit on a sofa, or watching TV etc.......

Getting up and having some body movement is always a good idea.. Its just common sense.!!
