Thinking of getting a quad for the summer (road legal)

Personally i'd go for a RWD one as they're loads of fun getting the arse out on!

This is a retarded comment, the guy wants to have his daughter on the back of it, I doubt he's interested in arse action TBH. I've been off of a quad before and I was trapped under it, I'd much rather come off a bike and not be crushed to death.

Who appointed you as judge of what makes an opinion 'retarded' :confused;

i did :D

I think you can understand the sentiment behind my statement, but if you insist on tearing it down with unrelated retorts, feel free.

Sorry, i didnt realise RWD had to go sideways everywhere, and there were no RWD vehocles that could be driven sensibly and safely - jeez... Also, the option of taking the kid out was secondary to the want of one for fun, and people were bemoaning 4WD Quads' handling, when in actual fact RWD are more fun anyway (and 4WD isnt exactly required for tarmac use)

As for being trapped under it, i take it you lived to tell the tale?

You just said he should get one because you can get the arse out on it, I was just stating he probably wouldn't be too interested in drifting around the streets, as would any sane person. And no, I am dead, my coffin has internet access.

jeez, can people who dont have anything to contribute just stay the **** out of peoples threads, and stop forcing their retarded opinions on others.

Amen.

Other forums pick up on this very well so why not this one?

A member posts on a forum with a legitimate question, and then gets slated to the floor by people that have there heads far too far up there own arses.

He asked for information and advice and he's getting it? What's the problem? Why do I have to arse-lick the OP to keep everyone happy? It's a discussion forum, get used to it.

You just said he should get one because you can get the arse out on it,

well everything else being equal thats why he SHOULD get one, so i'd be right. The fact they can be ridden safely as well is a plus point - and they're LOADS of fun on damp tarmac/mud for baby drift sessions.

Not sure whats so difficult to understand or why you're pursuing it really, making something out of nothing much?

As i'm not helping this bloke get his questions answered i suggest we leave it there. mmkay?

I love these threads about quads. They're usually filled with people who have never ridden one on a road trying to apply logic to the scenario. There is no logic to apply. They handle like a boat, they're slower than motorbikes, you'll look like an idiot on one and so on.

So what? They're bloody fun. Quads on the road are one of those things you shouldn't knock until you try it. I have always driven bikes and was of the opinion that a quad on the road was pretty pointless and stupid until I tried it. I've driven a Banshee 350 and a Blaster 200 on the road and quite frankly, I nearly crapped myself. They scared the life out of me but I got off the things, shaking, with a grin on my face from ear to ear. For example, you get it up to about 50-60mph and approach a roundabout. You try to turn but the quad goes straight on. The only way to stop yourself from ploughing into the sign and dying is to give it plenty of welly and hope to God that the rear wheels break traction.

Practical? No.
Cool? Far from it.
Faster or more capable than a motorbike? Not even close.
Fun? Hell yeah.

I'd have agreed with most of the naysayers in here before, but now I have tried it I can safely say that their opinions have little weight unless they have experienced riding a quad on the road.

One thing you must be aware of is that quads are, in my opninion, a lot more dangerous than a bike on the road. If you go at any speed at all you have to grab the thing by the horns to get it to turn. The chances of drifting wide on a roundabout or corner into oncoming traffic are very high unless you know how to handle the thing properly. Keep this in mind when making your decision.

Just to actually comment on Quads themselves, they are the most fun I have had on 4 wheels by far. FARRRR.

So much so I actually want to go on holiday somewhere specifically to mess around on quads. Any recommendations? :D

have to agree with paradigm

quads are not for road use

they grip and are subject to roll on tarmac -because of the high centre of mavity, light weight and inability to lean

they are awesome fun on grass/mud/gravel surfaces when dry or wet, but they actually feel dangerous on tarmac at decent speeds, when compared to a bike/car

i'm a newbie on a motorbike, but given the choice of a quad or bike to use for daily travel, i'd take the bike anyday...

if you do get one, don't get a 4x4 quad, RWD feel safer

-edit, whilst I haven't driven a quad on a roundabout, I agree with Scuzi

Stereo typing ftl guys.
Two keyboards typing at the same time??

They are economical as well, I get approx 160 miles to £10.00 worth of fuel.
No you don't. They are woefully UNeconomical for what they are.

What does it do that a motorbike doesn't do better and cooler?
Nothing at all.

you can ride one on a car license.

This is the only thing that could be described as a plus point. For the impatient people out there its good because you can impulse buy on a credit card and drive it away the same day.

But when you balance that against how different they are to cars, it shouldn't be allowed to be on the same licence category.

Add to that, the fact that quads are more expensive than bikes and you could get a nice shiny R1 to kill yourself on and pass your DAS for the quad money. It stacks up against the quad.

Also think about:

Who or how you will sell it when you get bored

Whether you're going to get your daughter any kit

How much more fun you can have on a bike without needing to go off road

Where the nearest greenlane is so that you can have some proper fun

come to my house, as long as you sign a disclaimer first (and bring any IT equipment with you so I can have, incase you do die)

quads are great fun off road, can't imagine them being all that on road but I'm sure they could be.

I take it you don't have to where a helmet as it has four wheels?
