Thinking of getting a quad for the summer (road legal)

Or they might just care more about there own comfort.

Are you trolling, or do you honestly think that? If you do, I sense a darwin award in your not too distant future.

How comfortable would you be in a hospital bed with brain damage, or worse, dead?

I'm not saying it's something I'd do, certainly not for long journeys. But statistically if you are just popping up the road to the shops you are unlikely to have an accident.

Statistically, most accidents happen close to home.

So no, you're wrong.

No I'm right. Statistically you are unlikely to have an accident whenever you go out. Personally I'd risk a 5 minute journey to tesco's on a quad without a helmet.

And you get clipped by a car, come off and hit your head off something. The next thing you know, you awaken in hospital, unable to move. You spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair, dribbling on yourself, being cared for by your family. You never walk again, let alone get on a quad.

But hey, at least you were comfortable riding your quad.

OR

You pop your helmet on, drive along, get clipped by a car. You come off, hit your head, but get up. Your arse hurts due to being grazed, and the quad has a dent, but you are fine. You get back on the quad and continue to Tesco.

Not sure why people would take a risk with something like that, but hey, your life to ruin.

Risk it for what gains? It would take a few seconds to put a helmet on. All you have to do is fall backwards, bang your head and you could be left brain dead.

If I just needed to be quick and I couldn't be arsed to get my helmet and my head was all sweaty because it was hot or something I'd do it.

this is nothing to do with the OP though, so I'm not going to talk any more on the matter.

I'd rather be sweaty than brain dead, but I suppose a bang on the head would do you a world of good.

Some valid points raised but it always ends up with those that don't know telling us what they think they know. Scuzi, fair points mate and yes they can be a handful but as you say once you're used to them they can be fun and they can be safe. A Helmet should always be worn by the way although not legally required!

Monkey, please do not tell me what my quad can or cant do mate. I am telling you facts based on my own experience. We can all quote until we are blue in the face. At the end of the day if someone wants a quad and asks for advice then surely he is entitled to educated information and not just peoples opinions of if they are cool or not. I am sure the OP has already taken this into consideration, there's no need for what 'could' be conceived as personal attacks on the choices some people have made or intend to make. We could go into a whole new direction about BMW drivers etc. but that would be unfair and irrelevant. I have no reason or desire to do so. Threads such as this should only contain factual information as requested by the OP by those experienced in the OPs subject. Far too often though, this type of thread always seems to veer off into what peoples thoughts and opinions of which often is based on no experience or factual information.

Its a shame tbh and I hope the OP will go ahead and get a quad bike. I am sure he will be enjoy it lots while most here have nothing better to do than to fill an otherwise interesting thread with crap.

OP if you decide to go ahead and get one, let me know and if I can help I will. Also there are specific places on the internet that will answer any questions you may have.

Anyway, I am out of this thread as its stopped achieving anything constructive imo.

Quad or Bike it doesn't matter. No helmet or gear = suicide

there's no other way to put it. I have had a couple offs on my bike, one at 15mph and one closer to 40mph. all i can say is my gear saved me from some very nasty injury's or even death. You would need to be dented in the head to even consider taking the risk.

Back on topic, sadly i can't really add much more beyond my experience on bikes. I'm not really a fan of quads on the road as the only ones i have seen over the years tend to be driven by the stereotypical "chav". All i can really add is get your self some good leathers and a helmet, you will NOT regret it.

I've never ridden one, and I doubt many people in this thread have.

But they are obviously ridden mostly for fun, like riding mad motorcross bikes on the road.

I see a guy riding one around here and I did chuckle when I passed him riding with no helmet on my ninja and he gave me a wave but it does sound awesome and I bet it's good fun.
