HTC HD - you got one? what you think??

Still looks to be the best phone out there at the mo, with the issues of the 5800 coming to light now, even more so.

Quick question before i sell my soul to orange for 24 months, whats thephone like for playing avi's and mp3... easy as pie or you need 3rd party apps for it?

Cheers.

I've installed Core player as it plays Divx and MP3 without issues, the video files don't even need resolution reducing and play great on that wonderful screen.

Rang the 450 number, got to the orange shop and spoke to a nice lady there.

Offered me HTC HD, 600mins, unlimited text, 250meg internet package for £24.47p for a 24 month contract. Phone is free.

Need to check with work too see how long i have left here, but i think its a done deal for that price.

So cheers all, Seems like by passing the orange high street shop is the way to go.

i've got a HTC Diamond, my father has the HD; i'd get the HD next time hands down - though check out the HTC Diamond 2! :)

I've just been given a Diamond at work and have to say I'm liking it a lot size wise, coming from a Tytn 2 it's great.

A co-worker has just put WM6.5 on his HD... it actually looks pretty awesome. I wasn't that impressed by the 6.5 screenshots, but it actually works really well.

There is a screen protector in the box with the phone, which is what I put on (badly). You don't need one for the back. :)

I've just spent today sticking a load of games and apps on mine, and :D, some of them are brilliant, can't wait to be stuck on a train again!

generally quite impressed with it, noticable speed increase whilst browsing, touch flo seems more passive too.

Cool. :)

How do you go about flashing the phone with it? I've looked at the XDA-dev wiki but am still confused, how do I save the original ROM?

Thinking about getting invisible shield as it's full body protector. So the rear of HTC HD won't get scratch easily like Iphone or Viewty?

What's the battery life like and is it easy to unlock this phone?

Thanks

There are reports of the paint flaking off around the sides but the back is more resilient than the Iphone but tbh that's not hard is it ;)

Easy to unlock - did mine via one of these online services, they email you the unlock code and it was about £15 from memory..

Nope, just checked mine and there isn't a single visible scratch after 3 months, most of it spent out of it's protective sleeve. The only damage on mine is some small dents on the bezzel (?) around the screen, where I have dropped it. Having said that I do look after it reasonably well (ie, no keys or anything hard in the same pocket!)

Battery life will last you a couple of days with wifi off, less with it on or excessive game/video playing. Unlocking wise I got mine on O2 so it will be unlocked, otherwise try the XDA dev, they sell an unlocking code or whatever.

On the games note essential aftermarket games are SPB AirIsland (which includes good versions of Bubble blaster and Breakout), Resco Bubbles (similar to Tweeter) and Resco Brain Games 2009 (like Dr whateverhisnameis on DS).
