took side of case today and was generally cleaning dust when i touched the graphics card and jumped as it was damn hot.
so im thinking cool it down!!
looked at a few of the gpu coolers but which is best ?
i was thinking of sticking another 120mm fan next to the gpu to cool it down which will do for a while but not so quiet.

is it best to go fanless or like the twin fan style?

card is asus 4850

thanks ali

So it's hot but you don't actually know how hot?

Intsall Rivatuner up and check the temps, set up a fan profile if required.

ati control center said it was 78c, updated to latest ati cc and saw fan controller so wacked speed 100% and temps went down to 35c

Can't you manually set the fan speed with ATICC?

Try a setting that best accomodates you, ie enough to cool it but not too loud.

Oh and if 78c is at load then thats fine.

78c was pretty much at idle, only got a few pages open nothing else

Try fan speed at 35-40% should cool it better and not sound like a hoover.

*EDIT*
If you got good airflow in your case, try passive cooling. If not get the twin turbo.

Got the Twin Turbo on my 4870. Great cooler easily fitted and does the job. Load temps now roughly same as idle temps were on stock. But, I did get the Zalman ram sinks (they come with excellent thermal adhesive pre-applied) and some of the Akasa thermal adhesive tape to stick the VRM sinks on with.

Have also got a side fan blowing onto it though as the VRM temps were still quite hot without it.

You can plug the Twin Turbo fans into either the VGA card header (in which case it'll still be controllable via CCC) or straight into the supplied molex adaptor using either a 12v or 7v 3pin socket.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
