YouTube is blocking all premium music videos to UK users after failing to reach a new licensing agreement with the Performing Right Society (PRS).

Thoughts? I want to support artists I like but PRS is acting like a bunch of greedy ^%$%$.

It’s the end of the world as we know it, seriously I’m sure that they will come to an agreement with the Performing Right Society.

7 of them.

I thought music videos were meant to be advertisement for a band/song. I've bought a few albums after me viewing certain bands on YouTube. It's a great platform for any musician to get your music out and for people to enjoy.

This all hangs on the head of PRS to be honest. They want to get a license for people to use a radio in a room in say an office or somewhere like that is pathetic!

Well, YouTube have been shutting down plenty of accounts with unofficial music videos on them, due to copyright infringement. Now, regardless of the 'legal' aspects of this, I'm pretty saddened by it, I mean, those users don't generate any profit, or anything from uploading those videos there, in fact, it's free advertising. I've got into a lot of music thanks to being able to watch these illegal music videos. Music I would have not been introduced to otherwise.

I've noticed that they've also started pulling videos, such as failblog, which shows a number of 'fail videos'. I'm assuming this was due to copyright infringement, but where else does one go to find that sort of stuff. Same goes for Anime Music Videos, love them or hate them, they're hardly costing corporations/musicians/artists money are they?

It's all a load of crap really.

i'm a member of the PRS

But i have to disagree with them on this. Youtube is a great place to find and listen to new music. If i truly liked it i would then buy it. I mean the sound quality on youtube videos is terrible anyway.

Have to agree, its not worth playing (over PA for example) or even ripping tbh.
People who will rip stuff from there are silly and just havent found the better places to get things. this will force some people to more download sites imo.

YouTube removed my brothers video that he did in college for a Within Temptation music video :(. It had like 200,000 hits as well. He's lost that forever now, as we lost the hard copy. Bit gutted.

hopefully they will leave the easy solution of bypassing all this rubbish by allowing us to simply select another country.
