Hi guys just received the Razer Mako speakers from Overclockers, hooked them up did some testing and i am really really really disappionted.

First off all its far from 300 RMS, Treble is not that crisp and worst off all that at 60 - 75% of its full power the mid ranges really distort the sound.

Now i either have a defected model or i really don't know from all the good reviews i heard.

My setting is as follows

Connected through Line 1
Bass setting on speaker controller is like 35 - 40 %
Tried all the htz setting

I am really disapionted  . Let hope i am doing something wrong

You bought a pair of speakers from a company with less background in HiFi than Alba, I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't great.

Get an amp and some Tannoy F1s for a similar price ;)

its was a defective cable, by the way speakers are great. Never heard anything better. Now my desk is distorting with all the bass :)

Send them back and get some proper speakers, not stupidly small, overpriced crap with fancy names of technology and badges.

Sigh.....................

Have any of you heard these speakers? I read a review on What Hi-Fi, that gave them 4 stars out of 5.

Just wondering - to the OP - what are you comparing them to?

Exactly, What-hi fi the last magazine to ever take advice from. Think they know it all when they don't at all. Especially their pz70 24fps incident and their way of banning everything regarding testing on HDMI cables other than their own setup and recommendations that even lord jesus himself couldn't tell between them :p

i wouldnt be suprised if he doesnt come back when people talk to him like that.

It's frustrating when people get sucked in by teh marketing palarva, and all these reviews by stupid gamers websites which means sweet F.A. All we want is people to get the most for their money :)

It's a waste of time on this forum, you convert one in a never ending thread, only for another 2 to pop up the next day asking about Razer this, Medusa that :p

Ive got the Mako speakers and they do sound good.

No doubt theres better kit out there and some of it will probably cheaper, specially cheaper than anything with a Razer badge on it :P

I bought the speakers because they look good, sound good, had decent reviews from people who have actually used/heard them and I like having something different and slightly more exsclusive.

You might be able to get something that sounds similar for half the price but who cares? If you like them and think they sound good then thats all that matters surely?

Most people here have never heard them but they still feel the need to tell everyone how much they suck lol.

Was thinking about what you said and then it struck me... what a load of crap :P

How do you know what experience they have in HiFi?

You think its the same guys that normally design mice and they suddenly woke up one day and said 'Hey, I think we should have a go at designing some speakers!'

Again, Im doing what you did... Im just guessing but, Id say they probably paid people who know what theyre doing instead of doing it DIY style.

And then, I reckon they probably got some people who make speakers to make them! I doubt the same people who assemble the mice were involved :P

Alba - Founded in 1917

Razer - Founded in 1998

Regardless of who they hired to design them Razer, as a company have no experience with Hi-Fi so what I said was factually accurate.

And the Tannoys do still sound better (yes, I've heard both).

How is the time a company has been running even relevant?

Does that mean all Ford cars are superior to all these Japanese cars because the company has been running for longer?

What a stupid argument lol

Just because a company has been doing business for longer does mean their product is better, it doesnt even mean their staff know any more.

But it is relevent to the experience that they have, I never said they were worse than Alba, just that they have less experience.

Yeah but company experience? what is that?

My point is that it doesnt matter how long a company has been making things, if the people making it have the experience then it could be a brand new company and they would still make a decent product.

It happens! New brands come onto the market, some suck, some are good and some are very good... It just comes down to who designs it and makes it. The fact a company has been doing business for years is comforting and probably means they do a good job ( they wouldnt be around for long if they didnt ) but it doesnt mean that new companies cant make something good.
