Darkfall - Jan 22nd (maybe...)

Lol that's not the case at all. They are simply unprepared and don't have a clue what they are doing, its nothing to do with trusting in the long term of the game.

Darkfall = MMO fail of the year IMO.

Im not buying that. Weve had a week of playtime and besides the complete hash that was the initial purchase youre getting an equal mix of fanbois and quitters on the forums, which is basically the same as every other mmorpg out there - getting this far shows they can get a world onto its feet and have people in there, which is a huge leap already. Theyve done the hard bit, from here on in its all patching and expansion. Im still waiting a couple of months so they can really get into their stride but I reckon this is going to be one to watch as long as they stick to their core beliefs. Its sure not looking like failing anytime soon with their current revenue.

It's very easy to get on your "I'm an mmo expert" high horse and proclaim the game a failure, but to be honest, I have a lot of respect for these guys. They've done what takes most developers a staff of 100+ people and a hell of a lot more cash they then have to do. I honestly didn't believe they'd pull it off.

I'm quite interested to see what they can achieve now that the cash is actually starting to flow.

I heard 30 people at last count, so not many, also at 30 people they don't have many people to monitor many servers to check/catch/ban cheaters and the like.

INcidentally the game went on sale a few minutes ago and the accounts page crashed instantly for me :p can't get through at all :p forums went to crap also.

Just managed to get my account :)

Not sure when I will actually get around to playing it, as I am completely engrossed in Empire Total War at the moment. Maybe in a couple of weeks or something

Harsh, you took a slot and ain't even gonna play :P

I failed again to get a key tonight :(

More that I cant guarantee when I will play, Empire has sucked me in so much since midweek, but for all I know I could be tiring of the braindrain of Empire by Wednesday and decide that I want to take a break from it and try some Darkfall instead. On the other hand I could be still rooted in Empire for a while longer, just no way to know at the moment. But better to have the option there if wanted.

EDIT : oh just incase it helps anyone. I have tried the last few days to get an account and failed to get the pages loading up decent enough to get my order in. Today though I tried the latest firefox instead of IE and managed to get it pretty quickly. Could just be a coincedence, but thought it was worth mentioning incase anyone was trying

'tis coincidence, I wouldn't touch IE with a barge poll but Firefox is this case ain't done me any favours :)

Back to WAR I guess.

The game really showed it's potential to me early yesterday morning, I'm in the Something Awful guild, and along with an allied guild we raided a couple of well populated enemy cities with about 150 people.
Performance was surprisingly good, the client and server can definitely cope with this sort of scale battles.

This was the large scale world PvP that WAR and AoC said their keep battles would be, but it's actually pulled it off. And I got to see it within a few hours of making my Char! It really feels like the rest of the game has been designed around making these large events the central focus of the game, everything else is just to justify and support them, rather than just the PvP just being tacked on to an RPG.

I can't see solo play in this being particularly fun at all, theres no Lore or interesting quests, and about the only stuff you can safely solo are the goblins near the starter cities. Theres a decent niche for small groups though, engaging in banditry.

So for those who are playing this hows it holding your attention?

Its quite expensive considering you get no box but I'm really tempted to give it a go. Had another crack at WAR with the free trial but it still doesn't grab me.

Is Darkfall worth the money?

Also how would it play on an A64 @ 3.2ghz, 2GB RAM and an overclocked x1900xt? I won't bother getting it if its going to be a slideshow on my old system.

Imo it's totally differant from any games I've played before but you do need a decent sized guild to get the most from the game. It isn't enjoyable in the least on your own because of raiders/pirates etc.

Get in a guild and Imo it's the best MMO start I've ever had, so much fun.

Game is rife with speed hackers from what i've read and also, apparently if you pull your internet connection you insta log out, so loads of people do this as they are about to die and then safely relog back in somewhere else. Shocking really that it didnt get spotted and fixed very early on in beta.

Murder Herd here.. Had some fun fights against you guys.

Im loving the game so far, and is bringing back a lot of ~98 style UO memories. The graphics arent that bad at all, but the animations really let it down in areas. My main gripe however is the terrible, terrible UI - But Im sure that will improve over time.

Ahh, you guys are the e-peen of the server eh ;D.

I was on the FFA PVP server on Vanguard at launch for over a year... why I loved vanguard....

seemless open world that you could just wander around in and explore

the fact you could kill anyone anywhere and this lead to tight nit guilds

If I wanted to just craft/resource gather in peace chances are I could as the game world was so huge

Community, could spend hours chatting to people and the average age seemed far higher and players on the whole seemed more mature than other MMORPG's I've played

Region free, I hate games that split up the world into regions I happen to like chatting and playing with people from all over the world and having the server always active no matter what the time

sooo how does Darkfall fair up? :)
