Why the **** can't people drive?!

i admit that i have flashed my headlights from time to time, but only after having sat there patiently

Granted I can see justification for doing it if say the person in front is day dreaming, doesn't realise that they're doing the same speed or being overtaken by the outside lane, or just generally doesn't seem to know how to use the lanes, but I find it infuriating when the flashing starts as soon as you've overtaken a car despite it only taking you 15 seconds or so to catch up to the next one. It's maddening that some drivers expect you to move over and slow down, or move over, then move back in after them just so they can do whatever speed they like.

It's drivers like that I wish some sort of minor accident on just so they get it into their thick heads that everyone on the road is equal.

another slightly more polite way that is apparently used commonly on mainland europe is to indicate that you wish to overtake (ie right indicator whilst behind the slower car)

but i doubt that would work over here as 85% of cars on the road are driven by people who are still asleep

15 seconds is quite a long time when you are waiting for a slowster to get back into the lane he should be in. If you are holding up traffic behind you and there is space in the adjacent lane then please pull back in. I get mighty fed up with people who seem to think that because they are doing 70mph they have the right to stay in the outside lane and hold others up.

intense high beams usually get them out the way quick fast and in a hurry. a quick blip and popping it down to 3rd will have me past in the nearside lane in double quick time (if they wont move)

I find myself using the inside lane a lot more often these days. I give people a lot of time to notice I am behind them, without tailgating or being aggressive by flashing headlamps etc. but if they show no signs of moving then I have little problem with using the inside lane (after a quick check for plod in the vicinity). It's not big or clever, but neither is holding people up for no reason.

im gona groan about my sunday "near misses" in this thread instead of starting another one. I was up and about, bright and early for a fiesta/focusSTOC rr day in lakeside, essex. Im driving at 30mph towards Hornchurch town center with some red smartcar sized tool tailgating behind me. As i near the town center there are road works controled by a temp traffic lights. I begin to slow as they are red, and this car gets closer and closer to me, he obviously angery i was sticking to the 30mph limit earlier. As i come to about 15mph ready to stop at the stop sign the muppet tries to overtake me before slamming his brakes on relising what a mistake hes just made. I mean its was bleeding obvious, stop here signs, cones everywhere, a big red traffic light infront of us lol. he continued to tailgate me untill we got to a NSL road where he never sped up.

Then, on the way home, im sitting at some lights that are red, and this 5series is constantly creaping closer and closer to me (these lights are like 5minutes between greens) which was slightly worrying. As it comes to our turn, i can hear sirens coming and im not sure where from due to buildings reflecting the sound. I check right, then left and thats where they are but they are far off so i set off. the 5 series is almost hitting me at this point for being "slow away". As the fire truck gets closer i pull over to the side of road and this stupid women overtakes me while nearly being taken out by the fire engine

/rant.

and peige, you are wrong, as are 90% of motorists in this case. Merge in turn means just that Merge in turn at the merge point, not miles before it whinging about other people "queue cutting". If everyone merged in turn, the traffic would flow like two cogs and never stop. Its people like yourself merging early then blocking other people that cause the big queues in the first place.

edit, LOL mrk great video.

Gotta love this thread.

"I deal with people who can't abode by the highway code by breaking it myself!"

Now hang on a minute here Rover...that Fiesta had a good excuse to tailgate that Van.

It meant that he managed to stay a whole 1 space ahead of you in a queue? of traffic which meant he was going quicker and getting to his end destination much, much faster!:rolleyes:

Upon reading this thread, I agree with many here. Best advice I was ever given was by my old man re: driving.

"When you are out on the road, treat every single vehicle as though it was driven like a complete moron."

This is actually so true as it does actually catagorise a fair few drivers :) It's always nice to think that and then get let out by someone at a tough junction or whatever - restores your faith in humankind a little...before some other mother ****er cuts you up again :D

on a clear motorway ill sit in lane 1 at whatever speed i fancy (usually about 80mph). it bugs me badly when i catch up with some car sat in lane 2 going a lot slower. i cant bring myself to just undertake them though because being that much of a retard theyre likely to just drive into the side of me or something

If I'm moving fast enough to overtake the traffic on the outside lane in reasonable time then I'm not moving over. If there's nothing to overtake then I'll obviously move over. I don't care how impatient the guy behind me is, I'm not doing any manoeuvres based on what's directly behind me unless it has flashing blue lights.

The speed is irrelevant so long as you're overtaking traffic imho, you've got to be creating more hazards than you're reducing by switching lanes because some douche wants you to move over, only to move back over yourself once you've caught up to the car infront a few seconds later.

edit:

Not sure if all your post was in response to mine. I don't hog the inside lane and you don't seem to tailgate or headlight flash :D

Needless to say I owned the horn etc, but he wouldn't budge.

I swear to God, people need some kind of new course to teach them that being all alpha and hardcore isn't the way to drive, jesus.

And yes I did follow her and give her an earful when she parked up

Irony much? :p

But I do feel your pain - I can't stand people who either refuse to pull in after overtaking, or who are just too unaware of their surroundings to realise that they should pull in.
