The Nokia 5800 Express Media (Tube) Thread

Im with o2 and for £20 I get 600 xmins - 500 texts and unlimited web. I had to ask o2 for the web.

Were you a customer already and how long is the contract?

Am looking at T-mobile: Free 5800, 350 xmins and 200 txts, 12 month contract. With cashbacks etc it works out £17.50 a month but no web included.

Thanks for reporting back guys on how much you pay.

Cheapest for what sort of contract I am after is with Vodaphone so far though don't really want to be with them.

Free Nokia 5800 - 600 minutes, unlimited texts and Vodafone Mobile Internet included. Save yourself £175 through redemption = £25.27 a month over 18 months.

I am going to try with Orange later after work, ask them for my pac code and see what they say.

A couple things which are bugging me about this phone. Although i really do like it so far!

Firstly, my old Motorola was very useful in that if i had a reminder or a text message come in, and i dont look at it straight away, it'd beep at me every 5mins or so. Is there any way to setup the 5800 to do this?

Secondly, how do i set it up to delete messages older than, say, 30 days? Or generally how do i keep the inbox/outboxes tidy automatically? It looks like it's just going to store everything forever?

Thirdly, Gmail is cool but the icon is all blown up/distorted. It's annoying! :p

OK guys so I just got off the phone with Orange. Let me know what you think of this.

18 months, free phone. 600 mins, unlimited sms, 250mb of internet. £19.50 a month.

What do you think?

I then told him I was waiting to hear back from o2 as my I know someone who can get "family & friends" discount. He went funny and then said that the offer is only for tonight and expires back to the internet offer if I didn't take it.

I guess he was a little annoyed as I said I didn't accept it when I said I didn't want to go more than £20 a month.

What would you do? It is better than the best offer I have seen on the net yet.

Also, will 250mb be enough for a months browsing?

sounds like a winner to me, i got offered that bundle via carphone warehouse with a £10 discount.its normally £40 a month, reducing it to £30. i thought orange did 500mb as standard?

I'm not sure what their standard is, they are ringing me back at 21:45, I'll try and get the extra 250mb out of them.

It does sound pretty good. Just not sure if 250mb is enough for a month because i've never had the internet on a mobile before.

Man, after thinking i did well to get 700mins/400 texts and a free upgrade to the 5800 out of T-Mobile for £21.50/month... i'm thinking perhaps not. That internet bundled in is a winner for sure.

I think it depends on when you ordered it. You didn't get a bad deal.

I accepted his offer last night.

18 months, 600 minutes/unlimited sms/250mb internet for £19.50. Upgrade after 15 months. The phone should arrive tomorrow.

Haven't played with it even in store, just going on the reviews :D

upgraded today on O2

1200min,1000txts unlimited data, 18 months should have been £45. Got it at £27. oh and free 5800 of course ;)

Cant wait till i get it!

Fendi: I had ago with it in store and it was really nice to use. Made me want it more. Im sure u will love it!

I thought I got a good deal at 600mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet for £25 a month.

Saying that I barely use 500 mins so dont need anymore.

fendi ask again about the 500mb as they increased it to 500mb back in january(used to be 250mb).

Hi,

I'm pretty sure they would say no as he said they already had knocked a fiver off and added in 250mb for free. I tried to get more when they rang me back but told me I was getting a good deal already and if I wanted more I would have to pay extra.

It does suck as I don't know if 250mb will last.

I think I'm stuck with T-Mobile. I can't find a contract to beat my current one.

Flext35
£180 Allowance
Web n Walk

£20.79 a month

Hi there

Just wondering whats the consensus from the owners of the 5800 now they've owned them for a while?

At the moment I've got a Sony Ericsson W910i which I'm really begining the hate. I'm with O2 PAYG on one of those pay in £10.00PM and get 300 texts and 300mins free. Well I've now got £80.00 credit on my phone and I'm not really using it up.

I've also got an I Pod Touch, while I love the GUI on this and I would be tempted by it's cousin the I Phone I feel this is sadly let down by the lack of MMS and the fact I cant forward texts on.

Which brings me to the Nokia 5800 - had a play around with one in the O2 shop today and it certainly ticks all the right boxes. I can easily upgrade the memory to 8Gb which should be sufficient for my needs and my PAYG credit would be taken off my third bill.

I was offered the 5800 free with 600mins, 600texts and unlimited WIFI for £35.00PM - To be honest I'd probably
be using it mainly for texting, music and WIFI - What you guys think?

I've only had the 5800 two days but so far it has exceeded any expectations. The screen is superb, colours are vibrant and it is very responsive.

Movies look great, I loaded some films up to the 8Gb card it came with. Sound blows you away. Through the supplied headphones it is even better.

I've used it to connect to a couple of WLANs without too much fuss, one though said I needed to go through Orange GPRS (typo?) so I wasn't able to connect. I am sure it was the users fault ;).

I have skype and msn working through a program called fring. Works superbly. As does the touch screen keyboard, qwerty does a great job too and is accurate when having the phone on its side.

The Xpress button gives you quick access to all of your media, you can change photos by sliding them like a slideshow.

I am still learning about it but very impressed so far.

I guess the only negative point is its size, it is slightly bulkier than my previous phone, SE W810i. But the size is soon forgotten with everything it gives you.

5 stars so far.

On another note, does anyone use a protective cover for the screen or a plastic/crystal back? I've seen lots on the bay but don't know which to get!!

Also, Orange had messed up my contract, someone hadn't put through what they offered me properly but they corrected it today (after 38mins on the phone).

£19.50 a (18) month. Dolphin 35 plan. Unlimited sms, 250mb of internet data.

Good write up Fendi - did you have any issue's transfering media (movies or music) onto the phone?

// Edit - Been having a look at Mobiles.co.uk - they've got this phone at £15.00PM with O2. Anyone know if I went for this offer if I could transfer over my existing O2 number and credit from my PAYG phone please?

Any advice is appreciated here peeps - I dont venture into this section of the forums often as I admitedly dont know that much about mobiles :(
