Hiya Guys!

Ok i THOUGHT I'd finished upgrading :mad:

I brought a Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Series Soundcard as the LAST ITEM for the new PC, its arrived, and as it was a Creative, and my older speaker setup was a Cambridge DeskTop Theater PlayWorks 2500 from them, I thought great it will all go together nicely...... NOT!

The Desktop theatre, a nice 5.1 setup, has all the speakers wired up and going into the units decoder, and the decoders input came from the digital line out on the old soundcard, which was a jack plug, not optical or anything like that, and the new soundcard hasn't got that input lol

So... as the speakers are quite old now, and i've come this far, I thought sod it i'll get new ones, as I do love my music and gaming... the problem is, which ones?

5.1 is the minimum, 7.1 would be nice, and i've got a £300 budget, a LOT for speakers for a PC in my opinion, but if they last me a few years I will be happy.

I was going to go for the Logitech Z-5500 but i've been reading some bad things.... fuses blowing, Logitech not wanting to know once there out of warranty when they are fully aware of the problems.......

The Creative GIGAWORKZ looks good... THX Certified, 7.1

Anybody got the Gigaworkz set?

anyone have any suggestions on a decent replacement speaker set?

..... awaits replies with baited breath :D

Hi,

Have you thought of going down the route of buying a home cinema decoder and speaker package; then connect them to your sound card Via the optical output on that Fatality card?

As an example, from Richer Sounds (not a competitor AFAIK, someone correct me if otherwise);

Tannoy SFX5.1 @ £140 (Silver with the upgraded centre speaker)
Yamaha RXV363 @ £150 (My brother has this very one and it is brilliant for the price)

Of course the above is just a suggestion, you could look around and find better things if you have more time.

I feel you will usually get superior sound quality when you step up from 'One box' PC speaker systems, and usually more connectivity and features when it comes to connecting other equipment if you wish!

Hiya mate,

I had thought about it yes, and for the money they seem a good choice... why isnt everyone doing it lol

I have had a word with Logitech as well now, they are aware of the fuse problems, also the backlight on the control unit, and there trying to keep exisiting customers happy by "Accomodating them" as much as possible

Some thinkin to do hehehe

Yeah the gigaworks 7.1 are the best pc speakers money can buy, also the 7.1 has tweeters on the speakers aswell so better sound qual then the z-5500s im guessing. But I cant see why pc speakers would need tweeters anyway??

Probably because that system is almost double the price of the z-5500 which a lot of people would also consider expensive. I'm considering just getting a 400-500ish 2 channel system which would be decent as I feel that if I'm getting 5.1 system with seperates I should probably be spending at least 1000 for it to be worth it.

Yeah there are so many options when you go beyond the one box setups, even though for the money the best PC speakers do sound very good.

Another option is to look at auction sites and see who's flogging full- sized setups, 'collection only', near you, since there are only so many potential bidders.

Another example;
My friend got lucky and got a MISSION CINEMA M72 AV SPEAKER PACKAGE, with stands and quality cables for 50 quid. :confused:

All he had to was drive from Glasgow to Edinburgh to collect it. The guy who was selling it said he was embarrassed to be selling it at that price!
