Police brutality backfires!

Whilst I almost agree with the way the spanish/portugese police deal with their business (Britain was the same twenty five years ago); they have four of them on him - leaning on his limbs.

He might have been struggling but that's all, no need to bash his head/whatever in whilst he has no way of defending himself.

true, but this is their mentality over there. granted they shouldn't of done it right in front of the fans, but generally they police the nation by inducing fear into people.

hell, in spain, i got twonked by an officer round the head for defending a mate who had fallen asleep outside some place he shouldn't have. we got the message and made sure we didn't cross their paths again.

as you say, this country used to employ similar contacts back in the day, ever since those tactics have been dropped, this country has gone down the pan with regards to crime. knife/gun crime is getting ridiculous. same with regards to education.

The guy was going NO WHERE when the popo near his head decided to start having some digs at the top of his body. I doubt it was in the arm tbh.

no - it most likely was his arms as it is fairly standard procedure for the police over here too - when someone won't let their arms go free i.e. they have them in front of them/under the torso - obviously need them behind their back in order to put the handcuffs on.

From a distance & I guess from the crowd it just looks like the officers are giving a couple of digs for no good reason.

1. it doesnt take that many strikes from a baton to deaden an arm.
2. it doesnt take 2 officers to deaden an arm
3. the officer sittin on his legs didnt hit his arm. Infact you can see it between the legs of the officer with the baton.
4. Once a person is pinned, they are then cuffed - no attempt to handcuff was made and you can see that no officer made an attempt to pull out any.

Honestly, how do you even know? You got no proof at all. Just horrible people? You seem to know them so well! Fact is, them being doctors, they probably contributed far more than most guys on this form.

I smell class war to be honest.

If they weren't doctors how do you think they'd have been treated by the media ? because it's completely over looked that they left their children unsupervised home alone, while they went out. You think a working class family would have got the same /sympathy they got.

They were horrible people leaving small children on their own.
Harrold Shipman was a doctor (and his twin lives on my street ;))

Actually it wasn't overlooked, they got a look of flak for the fact that she was unattended. So now you're going from the tack of deliberate murder to gross negligence. Keep the goalposts moving son.

i posted having in mind this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlrcoagUggs , Greek policemen dreesed up as civilians kick the crap out of a student for no reason...as you can see he was just passing by. He spent 3 months in hospital , happened just where i live...

official announcement by the police , he fell over the pavement by himself...would like to see a "portuguese" reaction to this

Was this during the riots, after the 15 year old was fatally shot by the police?

No I still think they killed her :)
Just it was never suggested ( where I read ) that they did anything wrong with leaving their children.

The Youtube video quality is crap so we can't say where the police were hitting. BUT

Do you think that footballer/fan would have ran out there if it looked like it was acceptable to hit him? You could hear the crowd go nuts. You can see the other officer stop the one beating the guy.

Someone said that it's acceptable in that country to use that kind of force. So why did the crowd react?

It was just a guy running on a pitch. He wasn't even naked. So why did he have to get beaten?

Having someone pinned down is useless. You need them in handcuffs to move them. Getting someone who is struggling into cuffs is not only non-trivial but if only one hand is in them it becomes a dangerous weapon.

How long do you think you can struggle with someone on your legs/back, one person on your left arm and another two around you with the ability to restrain your final bits of movement, whilst face down on the floor?

My guess is a minute or two depending on how fit/mental you are.

I think between 4 people they should have been able to cuff him. It also didn't seem too long before the truncheon-weilding popo managed to start stabbing at the guy.

As I said originally, the whole situation was OTT. Police using unneccessary force (the guy wasn't threatening, he ran across a football pitch with a sign!!) and the idiotic mob mentality against the policemen (where the one who caused the anger was off like a shot and an innocent one got done over).

Have to say the cameraman clearly had a hand in that one, i doubt many people would have noticed the sly digs if it wasn't being broadcast on the large screens in the stadium.

guys the wrong cop got the beating... The bald dude was the one that seem to stop the guy with the baton but he got the kicking...

The cop with the baton took off like a rocket

yup, the guy that tripped over and got the beating said something like 'that's enough' to the guy batoning they guy. The crowd went ott, but what do you expect, it is a hyped up footy crowd that just saw one of their own people get battened while on the ground.

The video has been cropped so you cant make that call.

Yeah true, hard to tell. But it doesn't look like they had him there for 20 minutes before he whipped out the truncheon :)

Also impossible to tell; how much he was struggling, how incapp'd he was, where he got hit on the top half of his body.

Although, codec made some good comments regarding the amout of force used which I thought were quite relevant.

I think they had it coming whether or not it was ott or not. But lets face it police brutality is still around and Im talking uk theres a lot more of it then people realise
