Samsung SM2443BW 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor

Hi there. Sorry for monopolising the boards with Samsung chat... but last question before I go and order on of these screens..

how many of you chaps have had dead pixel issues with them? Did any of you get checks before hand, and did anyone have to send back to Samsung.

I have heard conflicting reports of the samsung tolerance policy...

thanks
Doug

Ok.. just spoke to technical support guy at Samsung.

His said that Samsung use a tolerance level of 8 dead pixels for this screen. He went on to say that they tend to look at each case individually and that if there were fewer dead pixels in the centre of the screen, they could replace it.

He also advised that during the first 28 days I could get an exchange from the vendor for any problem (even 1 dead pixel).

Overall I got the impression that they get very few dead pixels. He said they get very few problems with the big TFT screens at all.

I think that the dead pixel issue is much less of an issue now than when i was buying my last screen 5 years ago. At that time everyone was really worried about it!

I sent my first monitor back because of the buzzing.... no dead pixels on the first or second monitor, the colours and really crisp and vibrant on these monitors......love it...

BTW what setting are other people using? I only dropped brightness to 50% and that was it?

Anyone used the CD it came with to calibrate? Get good results?

Just press the monitor power button above the light. :confused:

Yes. Now it works :( I feel quite silly at the moment. I just ran my thumb over the powerbutton and it dissapeared.

However, having said that, I woke up this morning trying to turn the monitor on and i pressed and i swiped my thumb but it just wont turn on. I'm either really really silly or I'm doing something terribly wrong in terms of turning it on/off.

Any tips guys? Or is my monitor faulty? Or is my brain just not working?:confused::confused:

My 'above the power light' statement wasn't entirely correct. It is actually just to the left of it. Just run your thumb starting from a couple of centimeters to the left of the light over towards the light and it should come on. Does for me anyway.

I've had this display since November, it has been excellent. If viewing angle or exact color reproduction is important to you (if you do professional photo/video editting) you may want a more expensive display, but for gaming this is ace.

I placed my order today for one. I've been using an NEC 17" LCD (16ms) that I have owned since the summer of 2003(!) so its finally time for me to upgrade! It'll be strange to have some much screen space!

Blimey that will be a nice jump is desktop real estate...........

What graphics card do you have? That's not from 2003 as well is it :D

All jokes aside these monitors are great, better colour than the OcUK value 24" DGM I had a while back (i feel)

Yeah it will be. The monitor has served me well though... Cost £450 odd when I bought it though! I think it was one of the first 'cheap' 16ms panels around!

I've got a 1Gb Radeon 4850 so that will be fine thanks :p

Will be with me tomorrow!

Excellent let us know how you get on!!

so I've got it... And its big! I for some reason didn't expect it to be this big! Still its big its funky and there are no squealing sounds! Need to play some fast paced game to get an idea of performance... But so far me likey!

Just received mine today..

I had to turn the brightness and contrast down straight away because I didn't have a pair of sunglasses to hand :cool:

It does look a little washed out and the colours are not particularly vivid, but I haven't had the chance to try and properly calibrate it yet, so I'll reserve judgement for now.

I have the brightness at 40% atm and there is no buzzing at all (was starting to get a bit worried after reading some of the earlier posts on here). Absolutely no dead/stuck pixels either :)

There is minimal backlight bleed in the centre of all of the 4 edges. It won't bother me because this machine is used for browsing/gaming only.. no movies.

My previous monitor was a 19" LG screen with 2ms response time and to be fair there was very little blurring/ghosting. With this screen tho, it is far more noticeable. I'm sure my eyes will get used to it though.

It is far from perfect, but for £224 you get a hell of a lot of screen for your money. Well worth it IMO.

I used the images here:

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

I spent ~20 mins adjusting the settings, after allowing for warm-up and adjusted the following:

Brightness = 40
Contrast = 70
Gamma = Mode 3

I'm pretty pleased with the colour and brightness now. (I had used Brightness 40, Contrast 60 and Gamma Mode 1 previously, but I think Mode 3 and Contrast 70 is better).
