I was very impressed by the penalties, though mostly because almost everyone who took one had such a horribly bad game I was surprised they pulled anything out.
We were woeful, which is one thing, but Wengers inability to make changes, inabilty to see the problem and flat out refusal to make the big decisions could have cost us dearly tonight, again.
Theo after playing all of 10 minutes as a striker came on as a winger and did far far less than Eboue had done, his inability to beat his man, his poor touch and lack of game pace/fitness showed. How he came on before Eduardo who is a more capable winger, a great striker and has played the bulk of two games more than Theo I have no idea. How Diaby and Denilson both one bad tackle away from a red card weren't taken off I don't know. Denilson for his studs in challenge was incredibly lucky not to get a straight red, but still he risked him. 4-5-1 doesn't work, we're an attacking team that need 2 upfront to make the whole team play well.
I didn't have any worries about the penalties though, it was painfully obvious to anyone at all that it made no difference, theres zero chance of either teams actually winning the competition other than a bit of cash the next round means nothing. Bayern are in top form in europe, Barca are, Man U, Pool, even Chelsea played pretty well, Arsenal simply have no chance in hell, any time a midfield is remotely good we dissappear, Roma were crap tonight to be honest, but they were just good enough to make Diaby/Denilson look incapable.
I really don't care who we get next, actually I do, I would prefer to go out 1-0 to Villareal than get trounced 8-0 by Barca/Bayern/Man U/Chelsea or especially pool. it would be less humiliating and less damaging to our reputation. if we lose huge against someone like barca, what big name players are we going to be able to get in for next season. They'll just see us as the waning team we are with a manager whose lost it.
Its why I wouldn't have minded going out tonight with a low score. Whats sad is I've never once felt like that, or come close to feeling like that under Wenger till the last year. We were simply embarassing tonight, nothing less, it will be worse when we're embarassing, and go out to an embarassing scoreline.
