Hello all,

I purchased a 8800GTX from OCUK quite a long time ago and it was amazing, recently i have noticed that i am not able to run all games at full settings. I was wondering whether its worth me upgrading my card or wait long for prices to drop/newer cards to hit the market. If it is worth upgrading what card would you reccomend?

I run most of my games in a 1280x1024 res

system specs

C2D E8500
2gb RAM
Abit P35
Windows XP

Thanks

I wouldn't just yet, since that's such a low res for any newer cards to work, marginally better for an added cost.

Is your CPU overclocked?

Otherwise if you have the cash, worth looking at the 260/4870.

i went from a 8800ultra to a GTX280 at 1680x1050 the only games that realy benefited was Crysis and BIA:hell's highway (and i suppose empire total war would have slow down sooner as well with the 8800) both of which are not very smooth before but are now , 8aa in fallout 3 was playable now , about form that no difference, so a 8800GTX at your ress is more than plenty , a upgrade would be a waste , as others have said some more ram and clock that cpu would help more

I think its just because a 1280x1024 feels comfortable for me in most games. I have a Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP 20" monitor (dislike wide screen), max res is 1600x1200. I might slap up the res tonight if i can get an hour or two of gaming in and see how it feels, although i expect i will see a drop in performance.

Your right i should clock my CPU i bought this rig with intention to do so but just havnt got around to, also wanted to put vista 64 on it but with some games not supporting it i decided against it.

If i take on a 1200x1600 res for gaming is going to be worth upgrading the card to GTX 260 or the 4870? Not much of a fan of ATI since i have had a lot of driver issues with games in the past (X800XT)

Surely there's not a single game a 88GTX can't max at such a low resolution? It'll certainly max out Crysis at that res.

change your graphics settings up and u dont really see much of a difference and an 800GTX is an amazing card so if u sli it it will be near or equivalent to newr cards on the market
