**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

I also bought a hardcopy a few hours ago still deciding whether or not i should rip the plastic cover off and install it or take it back and a refund such a difficult choice.I bought it hoping its gonna be another totalwar masterpiece but judging by some of bugs/glitches said about on the total war forum i dunno.

I have no doubts at all that it will be another totalwar masterpiece (its already my favourite totalwar), however a lot of people are experiencing issues with the game (not me personally) so it might not fulfill its role as a totalwar masterpiece until a few more patches come out. All you need to ask yourself is do you want the game now and put up with any bugs you might encounter until they are fixed, or would you rather wait 9 months and then get the game. Up to you.

anyone know the size of this patch because my steam is downloading it but it seems to be stuck on 0% complete, or the patch is at least 2Gb which i highly doubt.

THE PATCH SUCKS!! seriously,

i had no issues at all before the patch only had no alt+tabbing which isnt really a issue at all.

Now, if i click a ship to attack another ship Bang! crashed Desktop.

anyway i can un-install this patch??

this is using i7 3.6Ghz 6GB 280GTX SLI

I hope there's a new patch tonight as I've had a few crash-to-desktops and graphics artifacts on screen since the patch was applied whereas it was fine before. :(

Hmm well it seems that closing Stardock Objectdock helped me. I can now play on all High with some of the checkboxes ticked and get 30FPS+ on the battlefield and campaign map. I turned on my other screen so I could monitor temperatures too. Strangely, the GPU goes higher in temperature on the campaign map than it does on the battlefield (by about 5C too).

Edit: Oh, actually these improvements may be due to the new patch released today?

Just bought this (hardcopy in a store) earlier in the day, and just after installing steam, when it tries to update, the update window says: 'Cannot contact the Steam network. Try again later.'

OK, this was a few hours ago, and still no luck.

So cleared Steam from the system and got out my old copy of Portal. There, the Steam installation works OK.

The Steam website is also available.

If I don't get this running before tonight, it's going straight back to the shop.

Anyone have any ideas?

Keep trying!! The steam server is too busy to verify the installation code. I had to keep trying for 3 days last week until the server was able to authenticate. It's total crap service from steam, but once it's done you will have no regrets buying the game. :)

OK, it actually worked overnight and it's running.
Had a first look into it before work and played the two tutorials.
Very tasty visually, although formation control seems a bit twitchy.
I'm looking forward to testing it further, but my first impression is that it's a very impressive game.

Further formations are unlocked with the Research tree using colleges and schools. Quite a neat idea that gives you the edge over over factions, unless they beat you to the discovery first that is...

It took me a couple of sea battles to work out how to add the captured ship to your fleet at the end of battle stats screen (NOT IN THE GODDAMN BOOK!!), I kept clicking OK instead of drag'n'drop the ship to your fleet before okaying.

If your computer struggles with the game, check-out the Empire website, there is a good webpage that describes each graphic option in detail like SSOA(WTF?).

Question for other folks who own this game:

Whats sort of performance do you get ?

Mine is ok ...... until the battles start , once I get a large number of units on screen ( also bad if it rains) it grinds to an almost stand still.

running at 1920 x 1200 with PC from Sig

AFAIK, some of the early American campaign battles involving rain-settings (e.g. Quebec) are seriously bugged, no matter what settings. The rain weather effect makes the troops crawl to a sludge-pace, almost as if the computer is dying under the immense rendering effort :P. Hopefully will be patched!

Hopefully mine will be here shortly :)
