CRYSIS - The end of an era?

Alan Wake, they announced that it's coming when dx10 was just out...
Still no sign of it, and knowing Microsoft, there won't be for a long time, they like their 360 now and forgot where their roots are...

Bring back Ensemble Studio's !

You do realise Alan Wake is on 360 as well?

Cryengine 3 will be nothing if they continue to design it for the 360 and ps3... Inferior GPU's like the 7900GT and 1800XT will bring us nowhere.

Why would they design it for consoles, Cryengine 2 was designed solely for PC gaming :) (wasn't it :p)

to be rate pc gaming as gone to **** in last year! 9/10 of games to come out are petheticly ****

dying to sell my pc to get a PS3 and lappy but i just know they'll end up announcing BF3 soon and that just have to make me spend another 1500 to get a decent comp, so cant get rid of it yet :(

Because they have stated that it is being designed to be able to run on consoles.
There is a thread on the forums here somewhere about it :)

It doesn't mean that it isn't just very scalable though, so nothing to worry about at this point.

Dear god... Every week we get a thread talking about "oh noes, pc gaming is dying...melllltttinnnggg (oh, what a world!)".

PC games are still here now and we'll still see groundbreaking new titles that push our graphics hardware to the limits.

There's no magic off-switch.

What an odd, and unfounded viewpoint. Care to explain how you came to that deluded conclusion?

haha, me Deluded?
It's not ("chuchu") Rocket science really is it pal.

NB- chuchu rocket was the first 'online' game for the Sega Dreamcast, thought I would stick with the videogames theme...

who said that pc gaming is dying? its changing though

Crysis pushed hardware to its limit, which can be attributed to unoptimised code (compared to Warhead) rather than it's graphical amazingness.

I think games will continue to increase graphically, this has always been the case.

of course they will but only when a new console generation kicks in...

I thought Crysis was an excuse to release a short unoptimised game which forces you to watch Intel and Nvidia branding at the begining to push you towards upgrading to the latest hardware, despite even that not being able to run the game at a steady frame rate.

Developing and releasing a game that can't cope with the latest hardware and monitor resolutions at the time of release is a bit poor tbh, and I didn't find it to be THAT visially impressive for the power it commanded either, but that's another opinion entirely.

That's the post i've been trying to type since it was released.

never tell me what to do. If I wished to live in a authoritarian fascist dictatorship where freedom for me to choose what to say was forbidden then I would move to one. This is not one, as far as I am aware.

Don't post on a public forum if you don't want opinions on your posts.

I think the current question is not that the software is demanding enough for the hardware but more that the hardware has reached something of a plateau and has yet to make that 'next gen' leap that was made with the Core 2 Duos and the 8800 series cards.

Until there is a serious leap in hardware capability then regardless of the current game engine developments there are not going to be much in the way of aesthetic improvement. If you look at the current stack of games that have come out they have been quite pretty but the aesthetics are a result of clever and talented texture and effect development.

There haven't been any really serious engine developments in quite a while. I think you'll find that many of the restrictions are a result of the hardware and the current DX10 limitations.

Is it the end - not by a long run.
