Microsoft going to buy Dell?

I saw this in the print version and April fool immediately crossed my mind too. Had a quick google and didn't turn anything else up on it, just Honeyball.

In the history of dumb ideas it's less stupid than the Microhoo! fracas.

Cool, this would be like Compaq buying IBM :)

Except there aren't any Irish involved.

Jon Honeyball declares himself no fool when it comes to the biggest merger of the century.
The news that Microsoft is to buy Dell, which should become official at the beginning of April[...]
Come on, people...
Thus, the visionary new name for the combination of Microsoft and Dell that pays homage to their inspiration: welcome to Pair.
Was waiting for the Apple punchline... Not his strongest article, sadly.

I don't see why it's so shocking. And look forward to any eating of hats in here. ;)

Dell have been losing LOTS of money recently, and recently laid off 1900 people in Limerick (with nearly 10,000 worldwide for the 2008-2009 period). They are looking to reduce outgoings by $4Billion by 2011 - so are in real trouble.
MS on the other hand want to get into PC manufacture (escpecially Laptop and netbook stuff) - which is one of the branches that Dell is just about keeping it's head above water in.

Choking on their croissant as they read it no doubt :D

More like rubbing their hands in glee at the thought of being able to lob more fines based on total bs at microsoft. At the very least it'll fund their upgrade for gold plated bog seats.

I can't stand Jon Honeyball. He's so pompous and snobby that I cringe when reading his articles. Not only that, they're often poorly written, and talk about months old tech as if he's on the cutting edge. His diagnostic articles are much of the same - talking about some routine Exchange server task as if he's just stumbled across some hidden gem, and had it verified by Gates himself. One minute of Googling will produce a more coherent and comprehensive article covering the same topic.

He's also a classic narcissist, often giving what he must feel are scintillating glimpses into his over indulgent lifestyle and boasting about this and that contact in 'the industry'.

"Like I was speaking to Bill Gates at Microsoft, whilst building seventeen 2003 Domain Controllers on my sixty-four core i7 with 84GB of RAM behemoth desktop small form factor PC, and I just thought to myself - god I need to buy a new Porche."

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH

Every time I read PC Pro, I get so angered at his crap articles, viewpoints and opinions, that I draft an e-mail to him. When I've finished, I delete the draft. I'm better than that :p Henceforth, I don't buy PC Pro for the extortionate 7 quid or whatever it costs now. I keep old copies for toilet roll. Just for the joy in seeing my poo smeared on Jon Honeyballs big fat smarmy face.

Sorry, he really gets my back up.

Look at his face. Just look at his face. I'm drafting an e-mail now.
