Finally got my new car. Pics of an AWD Datsun with a straight 6 inside

When did it become cool to call a Nissan a Datsun all of a sudden, I see this all over the net just lately

Not a bad looking motor for 1993 in all fairness, I do like some of the old Nissans the Japs had some odd ball styling though for sure. Its quite handy that you can use a lot of the R32 upgrade parts should be a nice on going project. Have fun.

I like it - as stated though, unlucky on the price.

I think these forums are quite strange though - 99% of the new car threads on here have some pretty dull cars (I don't want to see another picture of a mondeo!), you've choosen something you like, with good potential for power later and not as common as muck - good choice!

One thing though - do Jap cars come over here with KM on the clock or Miles?

KM I'm not converting the speedo, at least not until I know for definite if I have HICAS or not, since if I do have HICAS then the speedo conversion can make the car quite dangerous.

HICAS is Nissan's 4 wheel steering system, at low speeds the rear wheels turn in the opposite direction to the fronts, which helps with the turning circle, at high speeds the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the fronts to help stability during lane changes.

If you do the speedo conversion, which is done by putting a gearbox on the speedo cable, it buggers up the ECU's speed reading, you can be doing 40mph and it'll think you're doing just 40kmh (ie. ~25mph) so the wheels will turn the opposite way when you go to change lane. Not good.

After the conversion, the odometer will start counting miles, but the existing number will remain unchanged, in kilometers, so the reading will be wrong (too high) best to just leave it in kilometers.

Also I'm loving the barge comments it really doesn't handle like a barge. I upset an MX-5 driver on the way home tonight by overtaking him on this bend, then watched the guy drive like an utter tit through Usk to try and catch up with me (a few more cars had gotten between us before Usk) and tailgate me all through the 30 and 40 sections. (Note: No speed limits were broken by me, that bend is a 70 limit)

Oh, and Gobbo, your mate actually owns a little black Lotus

Congratulations  I'm always overtaking people in "superior" cars along the bendy M25/M3 junction slip road in my Honda, and that definitely DOES handle like a barge. Just means I want to go faster than them.

Not to mention the Honda has a 2.0l engine, and you MX-5 (and many others) have a 1.6 that doesn't provide many horsies.

The MX-5 is about a decent little RWD drop top, not about all out power and performance.

The Accord isn't exactly a power to weight ratio monster though. Whilst the MX5 isn't exactly a monster either, it's got a slightly higher P2WR :)

I never before noticed you were a local! Those bends on the Usk junction are a bit mad, almost rolled a Mercedes Sprinter round it once!

No, the MX5 is about good handling on twisty backroads, though the driver had been gunning it at 3 figure speeds down the A449 previously.

Oh and it was a 58 plate, so I doubt it was the 1.6, didn't think they still made that.

1.6 was in relation to Howard's MX-5.

So you were going fast down a dualie and you think that means your car out handles an MX-5. :/
