I have made a few threads here on the subject of DSLRs and have put it off and put it off for so long.

It's my birthday next Monday and I'm thinking it's a good time to finally get one so is there a good quality DSLR + lense for what one would call a reasonable amout of birthday money? :p

Even 2nd hand would be considered.

I saw this deal which seems pretty good but i'm guessing it'll be abit much for you, i'd look through well known auction sites and try and find a Nikon D70s, its my backup body and will produce very good photos. plus their very cheap these days.

have you got a budget in mind for your 'reasonable' amount of birthday money and also have any cameras taken you're fancy so far? Oh and have you had a go with any in the shops?

watch out no links to competitors ;)

you are almost certainly looking second hand then.
I know where you can get a Sony A200 plus kit £18-70 for £225 but that's about the lowest that you are likely to find for a current generation kit.

What's your budget?

I decided on a Canon 450D for my 21st this year, couldn't have been happier. :)

how you finding it? what lens are you using with it? i am sat here with the rainforest in view and i'm ready to buy but unfortunately i am reading a very small amount of problems people are having so i'm delaying, and also i want it before i go to florida on 24th march and i'm worried if i get one that is bad i may not have time to send it back and get a replacement, and i'm unsure on the time you get to send an item back.

shouldi buy it? yes i think so, just need that little push, anyone know how much it was pre xmas 08? seems it's jumped up over £100 in last few months :(

I got it just before christmas with the £50 cash back deal jobby.

Loving it so far, but it is my first dSLR so I've really nothing to compare it too.

Using it with the kit 18-55 at the moment, but looking to extend my collection of lenses with a 55-200 soon hopefully. :)

Pentax K10D... cheap as chips, has the best kit lens on the market, and is the perfect starter camera. Takes beautiful photos and the build quality is second to none. Pentax lenses are also great quality, and while there are fewer of them than other brands, there is enough quality and variety to keep any non-professional happy. :)

well i took the plunge and bought it, cost £500 in total with the standard lens (will have to do for now as i'm off to florida so not noe penny to spend) and insurance for 2 years from allianz which i am pretty sure covers accidental damage.

took me a while to push the submit button though but i am so glad i have, though i haven't got the camera yet, i have been wanting one for too long and couldn't wait any longer. just hope it works ok :)
