national insurance card query

Guys when i was a student back oin the UK i was granted a NI card so as to work and to pay taxes etc. Its been a couple of years since i left and today i found the card in my old wallet...so i wonder what do i have to do with it? i totally forgot it and i wonder if i have to go through any cancelation process etc, throw it away? :confused:

I don't really know to be honest. I wouldn't have thought it will cause any harm to just keep hold of it? Presumably you aren't in the UK any more so you wont be paying UK tax or national insurance anyway?

If its been ten years already, i deffinately wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure somebody better informed will be able to tell you though!
 
As far as I'm aware that NI number is yours for life so you might as well keep the card in case you ever return to the UK.
 
ok , one last thing, keeping such a number doesnt mean i have to pay any annual tax or something similar, despite the fact i am not working anymore?
asking because taxation laws differ from country to country...
 
No, I highly doubt it. You are taxed when you hit a certain amount you have earned in the UK for that year. You aren't earning anything here anyways, doont worry :)
