Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

He's the anti-Abel :/

Any tips for Guile?

i think general advice for charge characters is keep a close eye on what they are doing.

since they need to charge their moves, it makes them somewhat readable by watching their movements, eg. if balrog/guile are crouching gaurd then they have their anti-air ready... if they are walking backwards then they won't have their main anti-air ready so its safer to jump then. you should generally know what their options are by the way they are moving.

cross-ups will mess up their charge. make use of any overhead attacks you got any too, forcing them to stand up will again mess up one of their charges.

as for guile, punish the crap out of him if he does crouching roundhouse (the double-spin kick), you should be able to get something for free if you block the first hit as you should be able to hit him before the 2nd hit even comes out. ken for example gets a free dragon punch from it.

Streeteh, no matter what I try I cannot get out of that last part of your 4 part combo (The throw). I tried jump and throw and each button. Is it timing or is there a weakness I am missing to it?

Cheers for the beatdown. Got to play the champ today. Only went down 3-1 could have been worse. I am gonna have spare time next week so gonna start learning these combos, and maybe switch to Sagat as well, I forgot how good I was with him till I played him against mpower07.

If i'm honest RP i don't have a clue to block it as i've never really played against many abels. Only person i know who can block them reliably is ojste so he's your man. Be warned however, if someone figures out how to block that combo i've got another that starts in exactly the same way but hits high and low in a different order, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT'S COMIN' MAN!!! :D

He's actually one of the people i love fighting as Abel as Abel is all about baiting players into making a mistake and then punishing them for it. Watch what he's doing; if he's crouching he could have a flash kick or sonic boom chargin, if hes going backwards it's just a flash kick. When he goes to ground stand within his flash kick range but get ready to block, 9 times out of 10 he will attempt flash kick which you can then block and punish. NEVER attack a knocked down guile, he can charge up a flash kick while down there and get you the moment he wakes.

If he starts to panic and jump away from you it's time to abuse either your faster jumping to get close and tornado throw on landing or better yet use dash or Marseilles roll and punish him with a tornado throw when he lands.

Remember, Guild NEEDS to charge moves to do anything significant. Don't give him a chance to do so, if you get in a situation where he could be, bait him into wasting it and take advantage of his mistake. As ojste said, cross-ups are also effective against all charge characters, Abel also has a stupidly good set of crossup moves (Marseilles roll and a long jump) which are at your disposal.

gg mate, yep Sagat is extremely powerful which is a big advantage hence why I use him since I don't have all the fancy combo's :p I'm still trying all the challenge mode normal and hard trials with him to see what I can add to my game. I hardly ever use throw which I need to start doing. I'm thinking about getting those madcatz controllers with 6 buttons at the front, because I only use the front buttons and the shoulder buttons on the right side, I can't use the left ones.

the throw special moves has 3 parts to it, the first part can be blocked how ever you want, the 2nd and 3rd part is blocked low/high depending on what he chooses...

the standard version is the quickest (and probably the most used), this is where the 2nd part is an elbow drop, you have to block this high and he goes into a tackle at the end.

the slower version is where the 2nd part is a leg sweep (has to be blocked low) and the last part he tackles the legs (again blocked low). if he goes for the ones where you have to block low, there is a slight pause before he does it which is your cue to block/punish accordingly

im pretty sure the 2nd and 3rd part of the move is interchangable so be prepared for any combination and watch for the pauses :p

So a standard block does it (high or low). Is there any offensive way out of the tackle?

yea you can block it, you just need to react fast enough and block at the right height.

ive jabbed him out of the slower (low) version but i dont think you can get out of the quicker one with attacks

Ojstes right, the high attack counts as a combo and is therefore inescapable, the low one can be poked out of if you're quick, but the low one also does more damage.

Bagged myself a job today so treated myself to some games :D

Got SF4 and Resi5.

I AM TERRIBLE AT THIS GAME!!! I've played Street Fighter games before, but can never remember them being this hard. I can't beat the Arcade mode on medium with Ken...

Best steps on improving? I can't afford a stick so stuck with the 360 pad.

Do the trial modes that teach you combos. Once you've learned the combos all you can do is practice, learn every characters weaknesses and when to exploit them. Play online as the AI is a cheating git :p

When i got this game on release i couldn't even complete it on easy, now i like to think i'm pretty proficient thanks to the combo tutorials. Though i still struggle against that cheating git seth

First do training mode, set all the buttons to how you feel most comfortable and make sure you can do all the basic moves, fireballs, dragon punches, hurricane kicks, super and ultra moves.

Once you can at least do the moves, and you've set your controls do as Streeteh suggested, trial mode and practice some combo's. The hard ones are very hard with a control pad, don't worry if you can't do them all. Play against the computer or even better play online, theres loads of us on here playing. You will get the hang of it.

I'm seriously considering getting a madcatz fightpad simply because it has 6 buttons at the front, and these are the ones I'm most comfortable using. Anyone know when they are officially out?

i dont see how having six face buttons on a pad will help as youre still only using one thumb. six face buttons on a stick is a different story as you're covering it with like 3 fingers and maybe your thumb as well...

also im pretty sure the fightpads came a while ago along side the SE/TE stick

When I play, I find it easy to use the 4 front buttons, and the right shoulder button, so I basically have 5 buttons to use. I don't like using the trigger buttons, and I rarely use the left shoulder or trigger button. My left hand (well thumb) is only used on the d-pad!

With 6 buttons at the front, and the right shoulder button, that the madcatz fightpad offers, it gives me 2 extra buttons which I can bring in. Will it make any difference? Probably not, but I sure hope it does :o:p

FFS just had another nightmare session
lost almost 500bp :( the most humiliating loss was to a 600bp sakura player and i was sagat

think i need to take a break from this game for a while

I know the feeling, i'm playing like a numpty today. Fallen for several 'unprepared' ultra/supers by just being a moron and leaving myself open to them. Kept doing the same thing over and over again against ojste which resulted in a free dragon punch for him but i KEPT doing it, i kept telling myself to stop but for some reason i just continued.

Feeling rather miffed about it all today tbh.

Oh and, how do i block blankas ultra? Tried blocking low and high but it goes through and then takes away a INSANE amount of health.
