I do love the way von is using me as an example to post his vitriol when it wasn't me who started the whole 'buy a 7 series instead' thing. I joined the party when it was already in full swing. Also, it went into full swing when he claimed the Cefiro was a better car than the 7 series

Actually no, I just posted a list of things I don't like about the 7 series, though the majority of them apply to any car that uses the standard German control layout. Everyone seemed to jump on the difference in interior quality as the reason I should have bought a beamer and I simply don't give a stuff about interior quality so long as it all holds together and doesn't rattle.

If you were to make up a list of things I specifically want / do not want in any given car, the Ceffy ticks far more boxes than the BMW 3/5/7 series.

Also the guy who posted the J30 Maxima, sorry but LOL. Completely different car in pretty much everything except outward experience.

Oh and btw, you can buy a tidy Stagea for a few grand right now, making the Cefiro look even more bizarrely priced. There appears to be an RS4 Stagea for £1950, is that the good one?

The Stagea has the same insurance issue as the Skyline, and yes the RS4 is the good one, unless you can find the Autech version which has the GTR engine in it. I did consider a Stagea but ultimately I don't want an estate as my main car, which brings us back to the Skyline again.

Look at it this way, 2 grand for a Stagea and £1,600 insurance, total of £3,600 after 1 year, 4 grand for a Ceffy and £400 insurance, total of £4,400, that's £800 difference, by the end of year two the Ceffy is cheaper. Also remember I went into this expecting to pay about £2,500, which makes the one year figure £2900, or £700 cheaper than the Stagea.

The car was 2k already, he was seriously expecting that the VAT, Taxes, registration Fees and Shipping would come to £500?!

No, the car was Y250,000 which at the time I committed to buy was £1300, making £2,500 a reasonable estimate of the total price. Unfortunately my insurance company then faffed about, delaying for a couple of weeks before giving me my money and in that time the pound tanked, bringing it up to £2000 with a knock-on effect on the VAT and duty.

There is lots you can say about v0n, love him or hate him, but one thing he isn't is a troll :)

Not really proving that so much in this thread. ;) He's just trashing it for no reason other than someone mentioned a BMW in a Nissan thread.

Mazda Az1 with 20b Turbo. Mmmmmmm

God i want those wheels!!! Dished Reggas!

Car looks ace also :D

That's really not it all, it's a 16 year old car that cost a lot of money and has no special or outstanding features to justify its cost. Fine, he got a car he wanted/liked, that still doesn't mean it wasn't a crazy thing to do.

1) It's a rare car. Most prob count the amount in the uk on one hand.
2) "proper 4WD" large saloon. How many other options do you have?
3) It's got a great engine.

Okay for 4k it is a lot of money for what it is but then again you always have to pay extra if you want something different. In it's current shape it is a bit average but as typical with most 90's japanese stuff it is over engineered leaving heaps of room for relatively cheap upgrades.

For me importing a 4wd Nissan Primera would cost me circa 3k. Yet if i had the money to do it I would. It would require a Neo VVL lump to make it fast so add another 3k onto that. To most people this would seem crazy as I could get a decent EVO6 for that kinda money but what your brain thinks compared to what your heart say is a prime example of the OP's post. Some people just like different things no matter what the statistics say.

Why can't people see this?

All very confusing. My dad got rid of his mint 3.5 litre v6 QX 2 months ago. For the princely sum of £900. It's looks pretty much identicle.

Each to there own I guess.

OMG! A Cefiro
In some parts done here they are like the Plague :p

Nissan has a massive Following donw here though

I think mainly people aim for value for money plus they want to take resale vaule into the equation, many don't even know about these unheard of jap cars and merely cast them off as junk, the cefiro is a capable car it has skyline running gear and an RB lump, its not even in the same league as the qx or uk maxima.

I have read through the pages linked to the O.P & still cannot work out whether this is some kind of wind up, If not then I hope you are happy & each to there own :)

4k  + :(, Even 3k would be the same combo of smileys but Value is subjective so like I say If you're happy I'm happy

If you limit yourself to the 4WD versions, one finger is more likely. There were 3 for sale in the entirety of Japan when I bought mine. Even on the Australian forums where I'm getting info about the car no-one has a 4WD one, fortunately the 4WD is straight off the R32 so it's not a problem.

As for the wheels, they're Momo Sports, not Halfords (or Rota) knockoffs. They'll clear my brakes and do me until I do a 5 stud conversion a few years down the line. The current ones are too shiny for my tastes, apparently they've been diamond cut.

Shame they've since been scratched a bit, could've made a few quid selling them.

Found my first annoyance with the car, getting the radio out is a bit of an operation that involves removing the handbrake release lever (the actual handbrake is a pedal to the left of the brake), not ideal when a Car PC is going in, on the positive side the Car PC will physically fit in the radio area and the stock speakers now sound much better now that the tape deck has gone away and been replaced with a half decent CD/MP3 unit.

Edit:
Nissan has a massive Following down here though
Drifting.
The RWD ones are a bit more common and some are rather cheap, they handle really well and I imagine it's much cheaper to ship a car from Japan to Oz too.

Also, just had my logbook come in the post. They have left the "Model:" field blank, and just put "Make: Nissan". If I lose the Nissan badge from the back, that's going to cause some confusion if anyone should ever try to verify the DVLA details against a photograph :)

Ok, on the wheels, I just remembered I also have a set of these in the shed (in bronze, like in the big photo) with a set of Toyo Proxes that are actually the right size for my car already.

Reckon they'll look better?

Yes, they'll look much better :)

Well having done some long trips in it, to the midlands and back twice, and to Hull and back (with an overnight stay), I can happily say that this car causes me the least back pain of any car I've owned since my crash in 2004. The trip I've just done to Tesco and back in the Volvo 940 has hurt my back more than the Hull trip. This is probably because the seat has about 8 points of adjustment, including the ability to recline the lower half of the seat back separate from the upper half, which is bloody weird.

I do still get a bit of pain but I think that's unavoidable, but it's easily coped with compared to my previous cars, rentals etc. yes that includes the German ones.

That alone is worth the 4 grand to me. To be able to get to sleep after a day's work without taking high strength painkillers.
