STEAM Download speeds as of late.....?

This is not a "Lets bash STEAM" thread. I love it.

HOWEVER, recently, I have noticed that the download speeds, despite which server is selected are not that great.

Im struggling to get 200KB/s on a 20Mb connection.

What with games now being nigh on 10GB+ in size, what was not an issue previously is becoming more so now.

Disregarding my love for the platform, this could undo a lot of the progress they have made if not resolved surely?

Maybe having Peer to Peer integrated into STEAM as an option would not be a bad idea?

Any tips on how to improve speeds other than selecting different download servers as that does not seem to do anything for me :(

What time of the day do you download. It generally is really bad at certain times but if you wait a few hours it gets better.

Although lately there has been a l4d update, a tf2 update, total war which all hogg a fair few resources.
 
Recently, its been morning, noon and night.

HOWEVER, the platform should not grind to a halt because new content is released.

It is a "Content Delivery Platform", surely that is what it should do, not fall over doing what it is implemented to do.
 
I have a 8mbit connection and used to get around 840kb/s when running at full, however recently I've noticed it going to around half that, and never going above, even when I use it at off peak hours.

What ISP do you guys have out of interest.

I am on Virgin Media cable broadband in the Nottingham area.
 
I'm on BT 8Mb and I get about 700-800Kb/s on average... Sometimes its a little slower but not normally less than 500Kb/s
 
I'm fine if I'm in Coventry on BT (maxes out 8mb connection), but when I'm in nottingham (o2, 16mb) it's quite common for it to be a lowly 40kbps.

Yep and generally when Steam is downloading games it does run rather slow between 100-400KB/s

Downloading elsewhere i can hold speeds of 2.4MB/s on 20meg connection like it should be :)

Though saying that, anything like updates for l4d etc do download rather quick...
