Front Brakes stuck on

Hi all,

Decided I am going to give my old mk3 golf away to my brother & stepdad to use. As such, charged the battery and it started first time. Been sitting for nearly 18 months and started once every 6 months.

Was going to move it out on to the drive so I moved the mk4 golf and then went to roll the prelude back as the battery is flat on it. Only for it not to move at all.

After having a look the back pads seem to be fine but the front ones look rusted on :( What's the best way of sorting it?

Charging the battery for it now so hopefully after a few hours it will have enough to start it and bang it reverse and try and force it back :S

If it's been standing for a long time, it's likely that water has got into the caliper and rusted the caliper sliding pins if not the piston too. Have you tried dissembleing the caliper and just generally freeing stuff up?

You could take the wheels off, then remove the hubs, and major suspension components, disassemble, and bathe in a cleaning solution for a few hours. Maybe even strip out the interior to clean it, and re-build the engine while you're at it.

No, even better, disassemble the whole car and re-assemble it 10ft to the left.

Or, you could wait for the battery to charge then just move it.

^^ This. It should free off easily enough and drive round the block a few times using the brakes regularly to get the majority of the corrosion off.
