Has PC Gaming Died over the past year or so?

In my opinion, few new games have really make a great impact on me. None give me the same good feeling games such as Stronghold, Civ3 or M2TW did.

Also,

getting older = getting busier in RealLife.

I do have a point. Those figures are all based on publicy released numbers by the publishers. Your only deluding yourself if you think thats healthy and will continue to increase the viability of PC releases. The accountants who fund these multi million £ projects only look at facts and the facts are PC games are not as strong as they should be.

Because every single console game that comes out sells millions...

"This thread made me remember the much delayed dukenukem and Alan Wake"

LOL!!!

I recall when i was planning this PC and saving up for parts, researching things as i had been out of PC gaming for years, and two of the games that really caught my interest were Alan Wake and SOW: Battle of Britain. neither are even close to seeing the light of day, both are shrouded in secrecy and both have the look of the Vaporware classic Duke Nukem Forever.

This was in the Autumn of 2006 by the way...

Is PC gaming dying? yes of course it is.

Wow, going on the examples you posted, PC gaming must be dead then.

What a load of bull, yes Duke is vapourware, and so might Wake be (I don;t know, not looked into it) but if you had any interest in SoW you'd know exactly why it was delayed and that it is still coming, calling it vapourware is laughable.

PC gaming is not and never will die until the platform dies, period, there will always be somebody making games for the pc.

Yes, but at the same time the game studious are releasing their big blockbuster title for the consoles first, and then doing poor ports to the PC platform.
Equally a lot of good games are console only :(

So? that still does not equate to pc gaming having died and nor will it ever do so.

I think the way it is going it is not that unrealistic to foresee a day when pretty much all decent games are only released for consoles, basically because consoles are becoming like a PC anyway. The majority of people use their PC for word-processing and surfing net, so can use a pc of 5 years old or more, thus gfx tech in majority of pc's is behind consoles (when next gen released).
The need for people to upgrade their PC's simply will not be there. If you do not want to play the latest games then WHY bother upgrading your gfx cards, I dont want to sound all gloomy busurelyt this makes sense really when you think about it? Is it also not the most convenient and hassle-free method?

No?

Because a console stagnates over it's life span of say 3-5 years, while a PC platform constantly evolves. This means that the potential of the PC is always ahead of the console.

Do you want to see NO evolution in graphics for 5 years?

im going to answer the OP's query in a reasonable non-condescending manner, drawing upon factual research and years of thorough investigation into this ultimate question .....

!!!! Console gaming is aimed at children whereas PC gaming is for the elite pz0wner pro's and is better ... !!!!

I absolutely DO wish to see evolution in graphics, that's why I invested £350 in my GFX cards in Nov 07 from this very site.
But my point was 'convenience and hassle-free' = pc for surfing,wordprocessing/console for games. I ain't talking for myself here but we live in an incredbly lazy and a society that wants instant gratification and upgrading gfx cards every few months sure aint that and if people aint upgrading their gfx cards then Devs won't be making games for 1% of population with the latest cards and 99% of people with gfx cards less than that of the latest consoles.

That isn't true though. Graphics continually improve over a consoles lifetime as the developers get the best out of the hardware. Compare the latter PS2 games (such as God of War 2) compared to the launch titles! Same with any console.
