Vista showing clock of 3.6ghz when it's really 3.8ghz

i've clocked my cpu in my new board to 3.8ghz but vista only shows it as 3.6ghz.

why has it done this and can i fix it?

My QX9650 Showed <24> Ghz at one time!:eek:, probably measuring the seperate cores - not sure. I don't even bother looking at Vista rating for CPU speed -nor much else for that matter:)

i understand speed step but how would vista get the clock wrong?
Ah I see.

What I've found is that if the CPU isn't overclocked in the BIOS (i.e. before Vista loads) then if you overclock it afterwards by a Windows based overclocking utility, then even though it is overclocked and CPU-Z shows it to be, Vista still shows the default stock speed :confused:
