TO TURN OF OR NOT TO TURN OFF??

I shut my pc's down several times a day and never have any problems. Pointless leaving them on if they are not being used as it just burns electricity.

use S3 sleep mode, takes about 2-3 seconds to 'boot' then, from a very low power state

i'd never use a quadcore system with a high powered graphics card as a downloading box, that's just insane

How can you use being lazy as an excuse? it's one button to turn it on and you dont even need to move out your chair to turn it off!!

Because when I want to use it again, I have to turn it back on and wait for it to come back on lol. If I dont turn it off all I do is turn monitor on and I can use it right away

I don't think it will do the components much good if they are getting warm, cold, warm, etc all day. I'd leave it running unless you are not going to use it for a good few hours at least.

I tend to leave it on if I'm in the house as I'm usually on and off it enough to warrant it. As above, I'd say it depends on how much power you're drawing, certainly no point in leaving it on if it's sucking significant amounts of powah.

Off? You all turn your computers off?

Mine's only ever offline when it has crashed and I am not around to revive it. When it isn't running, it isn't folding :)

I'm starting to get into the habit of switching my pc off fully when it's not in use since I'm seeing the choice of leaving it on whilst its not doing anything a waste of power now.

I put mine to sleep at night and when I'm at work, unless I need to download something. Not really bothered about the expense, but it gives me more time inbetween having to pop the case apart to clean the dustfilters..

I turn it off everynight.

Usually on in the evenings, after work till I go to sleep.

At weekends - usually on if i'm in the house but may end up turning on/off 2 or 3 times in the day.

Same, except the odd occasion when I leave it running over night for downloads.

It's not about financial cost. It's about environmental responsibility.
If your machine does not need to be on, turn it off.

yeh turn your pc off, go to the garage fill up with opti-max and drive 50miles to work, just kidding :p

but yeh this is one of the reason i bought my netbook.. if im not needing the main pc "for gaming".. i usually turn it off and have the netbook running on the side. Last years leccy bill was quite scandalous.

I only turn mine off on Friday night. When its turned on again on Saturday it gets a clean re-boot then does its weekly defrag. Standby rest of the time.

I always thought turning off was something that computers do, and they don't go suicidal by doing it.
What's wrong with turning a computer off?
