OK i am new to this and i am looking for a amp system. I'm on a rather low budget so things must be the cheapest im affraid maybe 2nd hand. i need some advice/help/recommendations on a new system. lets start with the amp i have no idea which to get ive been looking on richer sounds and ebay and not to sure. at some point i would like the system to be 5.1 but maybe just start with 2.1 . i have a pair of quite new panasonic SB-PM28 speakers input power is 70w (HF) 70w (LF). impedance 6 ohms. maybe i could use these and get a centre speaker and sub to start with ???
You're in a similarish situation to the one I was in a few weeks ago. Though I didn't have any speakers to start with.
AVforums and
Whathifi are both handy resources. Not to mention these forums.
I settled on some Wharfedale 9.1s. From what I read there's no harm in going second hand as long as you do the usual checks and apply common sense. They are bookshelves with 100W per channel. There are a few other bookshelves in the price range: Tannoy F1 Customs are one example. Take a look at whathifi or RicherSounds to see others.
For the amp I went for a Cambridge A5. I still feel a bit clueless about amps. But after reading around I feel assured that this is a quality 'budget' amp. I don't know if it would support a 5.1 setup or not (but would like to know!)
You'll be needing some cable if you don't have any already. I settled on some cheapish Belkin wire at £1/metre because I'm new to all this I don't want to be wasting money on some expensive cable I won't appreciate.
All the kit arrives over the next couple of days (so please note I'm not advising from experience, just letting you know about the process I went through) and I can't flippin wait!
BTW all the technology and different choices can and does send your head in a spin, especially if, like me, you like to be thorough. I'm just looking forward to sitting back and enjoying it all now!
