HR-01 Heatsink

You don't need to mod it - it already has rows of indentations running down either side to clip fan attachment wires to the heatsink. But it is designed to be used with the duct and the rear 120mm case fan.

I thought only the HR-01 Plus was rigged ready for a fan, not the ordinary HR-01
 
The HR-01 had no clips originally - but thermalright now do clips for it.
It's the first question on the TR website...

Question : I have a HR-01 and I would like to install a 12cm fan on it. Is there a fan wire clip that can be purchased?
Answer : Fan wire clips are now included in all HR-01 packages. If your package doesn’t include a set, mostly likely you’ve purchased an earlier version. If that’s the case, please contact your local retailer, or write to [email protected]

as WJA96 said it works better with the duct
