Dentist - Have to go Private.... Prices?

Well, chipped my tooth on sat morning and guess I have to get it filled or something. I rang my dentist and was told that because I've missed a few appointments, I've been struck off the NHS list basically.

I made an appointment to go private and am just wondering how much (roughly) a filling would cost? Any ideas?

Put it like this, it won't cost as much as the replacement arm & leg.

Depends what tooth it is, i pay about £80 for a standard silver filling in a molar.

If it's a front tooth then you're looking at a higher cost due to the higher difficulty, however i will say that you usually get what you pay for, NHS dentists are fine but they often use cheap materials, you pay more at private but they should use the best. I've got 2 crowns 1 NHS 1 private, both are fine but the private one is superior in looks and quality, however it did cost 3x more.

I had a White filling put in the other day. It was £55. Check up is usually £40, as is the Hygenist.

Out of interest does anyone know how you get back with a NHS dentist? I was taken off mine years ago and wouldn't mine getting back on. Mega waiting list?

I was quoted £70 Private for a chipped front tooth. I got it done for £40 on the NHS instead, which is still far too dear for a tiny amount of filler and a quick polish.

Well my mother chipped her front tooth last week and it is costing £1300....... Depends what kind of tooth it is, and if you just want a repair to stop it corroding or if you want a cosmetic style 'can't see it was ever damaged' job.

I don't think we have an above averagely expensive dentist, I think last time I only paid £34 for a check-up because I'm a student.

Costy ye a fortune. I've tried manys a time to get decvent trweatment for as reasonable prioce privsater but it just doesn't happen. You have to pay through the teeth.

None at mine, and there are lots in the area to choose from too.

I don't think you can be "struck off" the NHS, it just isn't possible. Your NHS dentist may no longer consider you as registered to them so you have to find another one but they can't stop you having NHS treatment.

Ouch..I moved recently and so had to change dentist, called a local one and was registered with them as NHS patient, had to wait 2 hours for first available appointment.

I get mine back from Mrs Asprilla's health insurance. I used to have an NHS dentist near my work. Never paid for that.

Wow not bad at all. I think its because this is the only dentist for a good few miles. When it opened there was a massive line of people queueing down the road to get on the books. My sister went and put us on the list and they said it would be a 2 year wait and it was. Now i just make sure i keep my 6 month checkups so i don't get struck off.

Its an NHS and private dentist so you can get an NHS checkup for £15 but get other work done like white fillings etc done private if you don't want to NHS silver fillings.

Call an emergency dentist and get it done on the NHS.

Or go private.

My last private dentist was quite cheap. I chipped a tooth and had to have it ground and fixed. I had change from £60 - I remember that.

This is what really ****** me off. My last NHS checkup was 3 minutes. I actually timed her. My shortest ever private checkup has been 15 minutes, and that was as I didn't need x-rays that time.

What the **** can you do in 3 minutes? £15 rip off.

A dentist can easily check the condition of your teeth in 3 minutes. It only takes longer if you do a scale and polish, which most NHS dentists do not actually do because it offers no noticeable improvement to oral hygiene.
