O God!

So? My family has rescued dogs that have been fought, beaten and starved. None of them have been vicious and i'd trust each and every one of them with my kids.

If you're not willing to take the stance to treat a dog how it's supposed to be treated, you shouldn't be allowed animals in your house.

Pitbulls are not outwardly violent creatures. They're favoured by outwardly violent people. The boxer is not a sponge that soaks up it's surroundings.

People like you are the reason so many dogs are destroyed for no reason.

Yeah I see where you're coming from with regards to being a responsible owner and guardian of an animal, but the OP said he had his reservations about introducing the two and was unsure of the dog's history - hence my use of the word "potentially".

If I was in the position where I was introducing two animals, I'd want to be sure I had a good understanding of both of their histories and their propensities for behaviour - be it good or bad.

Indeed. You're right, there will be an air of unpredictability but all dogs can be rehabilitaed even if he IS in a bad way (which he probably isnt, going by this quote)
and this bloke is supposed to be a nice fella who loves his dogs, reason for him going around loacal asking everyone if they'll take them so they dont have to go to dog kennel's, dont know him my self but gunna take her word on it.

It'd be more selfish to dismiss the dog before even finding out. Go and play with it for 15 minutes. It might be the greatest thign you ever do.

It really, really would. As unfair as it would seem to innocent pet owners, just the sheer scale of mistreated and prematurely destroyed animals is giddying.

I have only started to realise how bad it has become and the house hold breeders who do not care about the out come of the animals (or health) and breed to make money.

I am currently waiting to get Max checked out for Hips/Elbows/Eyes and other checks for the normal problems with GSD's in a hope to Sire him if all come back good, but the only reason I want to sire him is so I can have another white GSD puppy when he is older.

But this is a different topic and we should keep this on track.

we have had 5 dogs in the family...loved them all to bits apart from 1 ...thats the one that we didnt have as a pup.

always felt like it would turn on me....i think it had mental problems so we gave it away after about 2 months.

Well just come back from work, to see are new family member!

Her names Clio, 5 years old seems pretty cool....the owner had her teeth cleaned yesterday, he's told us its best to get this done every 3-4 months costing 140 pound

Cheers mate for taking time out to write all that, think ill get hang of it soon :D

Ive been to fetch a cushiony blanket/ biting things / basket / leads ect, o and some of that bacon stuff, love smelling that haha :)

cheers

Trust me, the poor dog is going to be terrorised by the cat, not the other way round. ;)

Boxers are lovely, I'm thinking of getting one to keep my wee terrier mutt happy.

Hmmm ive been told the cat went mental and now has gone awol, i really hope the cat get on with the dog.

going to take Dampcat's advise and just hope everything goes ok, the cat comes first!

I'm sorry let me get this right, you live with your Mam and she asks you if she can get a dog?

:strange:

what lol? damn right! especially when it will be me who as to look after it.

You sure its a Pitbull ?

yep defiantly a pitbull, but no way on this earth i would have one the things around the house, owner said its a lovely dog, but ive seen to many programs about these dogs being lovely then randomly going wild for no reason

he said we would need a license/it has to be neutered / wear a muzzle at all times when out of house and other stuff.....yes there stunning looking dogs but not interested at all.

pic of the pitbull:

They Both look very cared for pets, I wouldn't think twice about socialising with them or sharing my home. At first I was expecting a working Pit but that one is a definate pet Pit if you know what I mean, Fair play to the bloke for bringing up such lovely dogs, I hope one day they can all get back together as he Obviously loves them.
Good Luck with the cat & after seeing the pics I'd say you have no worrys with Either dog & the cat will probably bitch slap the pair of them if they try it on.

Awww... look at her stupid face :D

The cat will come back when it's ready. They're pretty independant creatures and she'll work out for herself when she's ready to socialise, although i do hope that's not too long!

we haven't had the pitbull, be my fault from my crap spelling and grammar :p

Got cat back in house earlier but he's proper **** scared even though dog was 2 rooms away behind a shut door! what i dont understand is that we have had other people's dogs come in house and he normally just sits there looking superior not giving a toss, so dunno whats up with him now :/

Some really good advice from dampcat there; as for the dogs, the Boxer looks lovely, the pitbull looks like a staffy to me and as it has been illegal to own/breed/deal pitbulls since 1991, it probably is a staff or staff cross.

I've been around Boxers for 50 yrs and you will get back lots more than you put in if you spend time with her.
If she needs teeth doing so often it sounds like she's been eating soft, tinned food or similar; I'd slowly change the diet to dry food and plenty of fresh water, she'll smell a lot better from both ends ;)

When the cat returns, let 'em get to know each other slowly ...... different rooms at first, to get used to the scent etc ...... should be fine after a while.

Well done for rescuing the dog, you'll have some great times if you put a little effort into training (you and her).

ps As mentioned, training by rewards works much better than punishment and unless she rolls in fox poo, you will not need shampoo.

If you can find one, get a 'hound glove' ....... rubber mitt with table tennis bat type/pimply surface .... to 'brush' her with cos they do lose hair.

Kind regards.

You sound like a spoilt brat, I would also like to see your reasoning that the pit bull is aggressive?

If brought up to be a pet then it will be like every other dog, it's people like you who will not give something a chance because of the "hype" around the breed.

Bull Terriers have a really bad reputation but that's due to the ****'s who train them that way, all dogs can be good family pets if the owner knows how to train the dog.

The boxer looks almost the same as my old boxer (RIP Benson, you craxy sod!), sam white flashing on the muzzle, socks, etc. Trust me, spend some time with that dog and you won't be able to imagine life without it in a few months. They're always entertaining, loving and loyal. I'm sure the cat'll come round eventually, it's just suddenly dropped down in the household food chain!

How would you like it if I decided that a bulldog needed rescuing so you're going to take it in, feed it, walk it, wash it and drive it to the vet.

If you had any sense then you would tell me that it is my dog and I should take care of it.

If he has a problem he can move out, it's not his house.

Don't be an idiot. He hasn't complained that he wants a dog. He has complained that his mum wants to get a dog and that he should take care of it. He has a legitimate grievance.

The Pitbull looks cool. I used to go to a guys house where he kept 5 Pitbulls and treated them well. they were lovely things. Bit intimidating the first time round as they were all jumping up at you, but once you found that they just wanted to give you a good sniff and attempt to lick your face a bit, and they wern't trying to savagely maul you, i found them to be lovely.

5 would be a bit of a nightmare mind, they're bloody strong dogs, and when they all wanted to get up and sniff and lick you at once it was rather overwhelming.

But yes, very affectionate things, their reputation just precedes them.

You're making it out like its hard work looking after a dog. It really isn't.

That's not the point. His mum doesn't take care of her cat and now she wants a dog that she is not going to take care of. Is it okay if I arrange for the local shelter to bring you a dog? It's not like it is a lot of work taking care of it?

Already rescued one of my dogs thank you.
