E39 wood trim. fox et al look here.

BMW have mastered the art of making real wood trim look like a very good fake.

My own e36 being a classic case in point!:o:D

I'll never understand the Germans!

Yep, my brothers E39 M5 had wood trim (Now silver), and it does indeed look exceedingly fake..

Even worse, you had to pay extra to have fake looking wood trim on the car, so someone must have actually wanted it!

I have an E39 sport arriving at the weekend with silver trim, i was actually planning to change it out for wood if i keep it for any length of time :p

Everyone else buys a car, Jez has one 'arriving' :p

Sort of seems the wrong phrase to use when its not really a planned purchase or one i will probably keep. Kind of makes you see it as a passing commodity rather than a "purchase" as such.

Much prefer the aluminium trim myself, the e39 interior is nice in that, never been much of a fan of wood in modern cars.

What cars would you want it in then, if its not massively expensive flagship luxury cars?

It seems to suit classic cars much better. I cant really name many off the top of my head but Ive seen some lovely wood dashboards in classic sports cars and such. A lot of Rolls Royce motors seem to have fantastic wood interiors and they suit very well.

But in most modern cars I think it looks out of place and in some cases, a little forced, as though, like you say, wood is somehow the hallmark of luxury, so it gets placed in flagship cars. But nestling a line of wood trim in between swathes of dark modern plastics and leather just doesnt seem to look right to me.
