Dead Space - Survival Horror is Back

Great game - just finished it today. :)

Played the 1st level of Resi 5, but that hasn't been back in the PS3 since I started this one!

I really hope Resi isn't a let down after this.

If you thought resistance 2 was creepy you'll have a heart attack in this. I think only one moment in resistance made me feel slightly edgy but this is really messing me up at points.

*possible spoiler*

i hate activating something important like the ships engines, and awaiting the mass of aliens that come swarming towards you, it ***** me up everytime. the line gun is awesome for getting rid of them though. im glad its a bit like doom 3 with the dark corridoors and dark locations, it just wouldn't be creepy without them :D

No swearing

Hmm is this worth picking up, if one happens to like scary games/survival horror?

Is it like Event Horizon in game format?

similar to even horizon as in you board a spaceship, yeh ;p heh i wont say anymore i dont want to give anything away.

i got it for 21 quid so definately worth picking this up!

Can be had for £15 new in a supermarket apparently, that makes it the best value game available today for me. Utterly sublime in a hideous sort of way.

Spoilers:

Just did the shooting gallery and z-ball, i'm a bit disappointed with the z-ball, i was really getting into it and then it was done, would have loved some non-compulsory but more difficult levels. Oh and, level 5 suit = space samurai++

Bit disappointed with some of the later enemies so far, it's basically black versions of previous enemies which is fine i guess, but then the new enemies are almost comical. The dudes with the explosive thing on their arms make noises like daffy duck and the infected marines run around like one of those wind up dogs. Minor criticisms though.

You won't think they're so comical on Impossible difficulty when they sneak up behind you and kill you in 1 hit every time...

I got deadspace the day before i got resi, not really played it though incase it wasn't as good as resi :D

Currently running through it with the level 6 armour and trying to upgrade all of my weapons to the max. Tis great fun being able to play with all the weapons without worrying about ammo etc (i'm frikkin' loaded, found medium difficulty quite easy so got like 50 medium health kits to sell when i need cash), i did the 'one gun' trophy on my first play through so i hadn't even SEEN any of the weapons until now. One disappointment is that now i know where all the enemies are going to come from it isn't at all scary, ran through chapters 1-3 in less than an hour.

Personal favourite is the assault rifle, really good for churning off limbs and so much easier than the cutter. The line gun is also amusing when fully upgraded, de-legging 3 necromorphs in one shot is comical, flame thrower is underwhelming and far too weak, am yet to try the ripper, force gun and the other one.

[EDIT] Also loving all of the great references in this game, from Isaacs name down to the trophies; don't get cocky kid, get off my ship! and my personal favourite 'Kick it!' which i believe is in reference to the first episode of southpark 'Kick the baby!'

I was the same...did 'One Gun' the first play through so it was a real treat when I got to play with the other weapons.

Contact beam is epic. ;)

Love the secondary fire on that and the assault rifle.

Yea, I did the same too, got half way through the game and thought what the hell might as well carry on with the plasma cutter.

And it does kind of ruin it when you replay because you know where the enemies are gonna come from, I was playing yesterday and I knew when I killed something them flying bats would appear and turn some bodies to black ninja necros, so I just used kinesis to move all the dead bodies out of the room, when the bats showed they didn't know what to do haha

Although other times you know whats a head and just don't want to go any further.

Some good extra reading here (May contain spoilers):

Question for those who have seen it, though it may have been asked already in this thread....

What's the animated movie like and will it add to the enjoyment of the game, bear in mind I've played through the game nearly twice now??

I can confirm this game is on sale in a known supermarket for £14.99, saw it today on lunch

The animated movie is pretty good actually. It takes place right before you arrive on the ship.

Yeah it's alright actually, it explains a few things, but not much to get excited about you generally find out most things in the game.

One thing that bugged me was that places like the bridge/control room looked different in the film than in the game and some of the bits you see in the video logs are different in the film.

Just started this after borrowing it off a mate. Done chapter 1 and can't be bothered to play it anymore tonight. Does it get better?
