little confused they look like barbs on a certain site but it says Hose Tail, just want to make sure I am getting the right thing

Hose tail is the OD (outside dia) at widest point of a barb.

99% sure it's a barb you getting (google "hose tail" inc speech mark and look at the second link - a forum)
it's a great guide on barbs.

They are both the same. BSP is the standard thread used by most manufacturers these days(British standard pipe) as opposed to NPT (US). Hosetail is explained above.

The 1/4 is the thread angle/pitch and the 1/2 is the ID is inside diameter of the tubing, OD being outside.

Both those barbs will be fine for 1/2" ID tubing

1/4" BSPP = G1/4 this is the barb thread
Both fit 1/2inch ID tubing (but use 7/16)

DTEK are hi flow but the two you listed may not be the same.

Edit: w3bbo - if the G is for tapered its not the same - BSPP the second P is for paralell

3/8" ID tubing won't fit on the 1/2" barbs you mentioned in your second post. You need 1/2" ID tubing, or 7/16" ID tubing which is smaller, but is a snug fit over 1/2" barbs.

BSPP are parallel threads, no taper, denoted by G.
BSPT are tape threads, denoted by R.

Confirmed

G = parallel or stright thread (thought I was losing it then)
As a side note thin walled 3/8 tubing does fit over 1/2 barbs but it's a nightmare to fit and not really recomended

Looks like this if you do

Aye, I was actually editing my post when you posted lol. Got my G's and T's messed up. But I got 'both the same' right ;). BSPP = parellel thread, BSPT = tapered.

3/8 ID tubing will fit on a 1/2 barb but it will be stretched and extremely difficult to fit over (use hot water to heat the tubing up making it more flexible). You will also have to cut the tubing to get it off, it's that tight!

1/2 tubing is the easiest fit but needs a secure fitting such as a worm drive.

7/16 tubing is the best compromise between the two.
