Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Aye, i managed to try a stick over a mates house a couple of days ago, i half expected it to turn me into a gaming god but i played like a muppet. It was clear that with practice a stick might give me a little bit of an edge, but as it stands i'm just too used to a pad, there's not enough in it for me to fork out the money as this is the only beat em up i play.

Oh and, might want to edit out the sweary Ramdom, it's against the rules mate. You need to star out every letter in the word or else you'll get a slap on the wrist from the admins.

edited sweary - was being clever with the use of a '1'.

have just had the most frustrating 30 min on the game - just lost a load of games I know I could have won. Really cannot get used to the pad - even having problem pulling off the dragon punch on instinct. Can pull it off no problem - but the dpad is more floaty and you have to be more definate in the movements - just not used to it. I will have to practice more.

God please let me get used to it as I can see this pad is the way to go and so I will just have to get used to it.

I think I am gonna leave it a few days rest on SF4 as I think I have really hurt my dpad thumb lol. I mean really hurt it, as in RSI type pain. I have just put some deep heat on it lol.

So will hopefully catch up with you guys mid week. By the end of the week I will be a god on the pad I am sure lol!:D

I'm getting pretty nifty with Gouken now he's my main only time I have problems is against ken/ryu.

His anti air is pretty weak tbh and ken ryu's tend to jump in hk and sweep.

I love throwing people in air (back and throw) then jump hitting them once mid air then in to his ultra ! hard to pull off on the 360 pad but when you do it's a good feeling.

Cant wait til april I'll be f5 ing like a madman to get a fightpad, it's like playing cs source on a g25 wheel.

Just unlocked all the characters tonight, all be it on easiest :p

Thought I'd give online a crack.... 3 fights straight perfects. I give up, I'll never be any use at this game. I can pull off the moves, it's just I get pummelled before I'm given a chance.

The turning point for me with this game was when i learned that it's often best to play defensively and then go on the offensive when your opponent makes a mistake. If you turtle in and keep their big hitters under control with random pokes (light punch/kick to cancel out their combos) they'll get desperate and do something stupid. The moment you see a flaming dragon punch miss, you know you've got a free combo. With a charged ultra/super a single combo can mean taking off half your opponents health.

I think the game still needs some balancing i played a guy who destroyed me easily with ken so next game I chose ken and destroyed him easily.

I think the damage kens dragon punch and ultra needs toning down as well as sagots.

Ken isn't overpowered lol, Zangief however is plain broken.

well his flaming dragon punch does a hec of a lot of damage you can pretty much just turtle then counter with it and beat most people.

Not against my Blanka he isn't :p

Problem is, against players like Abel, Rufus and El Fuerte (all new characters, coincidence?) he just owns them outright as they all rely on getting close to deal damage. He's easily beaten by shoto characters, but as it stands, i'll jump in with a combo, land the first kick which with any other character would result in a tasty damage chain, but he simply does that stupid spiral throw. It's priority is too high and he can use it in the middle of being hit by a combo, the result of this is that all i can do against him while playing as abel is wheel kick him from afar, then jump away and do it again... and again, ad infinitum.

I can beat gief players 99% of the time, but it's dull, it's boring, it's pointless, i learn nothing from it. Why? Because as soon as i get creative i get spiral thrown. I also agree that he is a broken character as fighting him can never be fun with certain characters, unless you enjoy repeating the same move over and over until he falls.

Block and counter, that's all you need to do to win.

Try doing that against really good players, they rarely ever leave an opening and will punish you as soon as they get a single jab in. To play defensively against them is to lose. Only way you can win against them is to poke, bait and pressure.
